It almost had me in confusion.
I enjoyed watching the series. I like how there wasn't just one bad guy that controls everything but multiple, showing how the world used to work. It almost had me forget that it was a retrospection of Yeonghan's memories.Nearly cried at the end cus he was all left alone when his friends and colleagues have already passed away.
Its a nice show to watch and keep you occupied with his own amazing story. There's action, drama and a little bit of romance. I recommend.
Thank you for reading my review.

A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE
The actor who played the elderly YoungHan is the same one who played YoungHan in the series of the same name in the 70s and 80s. Another situation that moved me was that the actors who played YoungHan's companions in the 1971 series have already passed away.It was a drama with perfect setting, costumes consistent with the 50s and 60s, and we had a text with a more traditional and assertive humor. I found few episodes, I believe they could have easily had 16 episodes.
Moreover, I found the participation of actor Choi Bool Am delicate and sensitive, portraying the lonely YoungHan in 2024 and waiting for the moment to meet his companions.

Period piece
Period piece done very well. Love the camaraderie with the team. Overall feel good, and justice served. Considering its set in the 50's and 60's, good to see frime solving without todays tech and advances. Great acting from the overall cast. Great stories, kept me interested to complete, plot rating 8/10. Ost was inline with period and gave off oceans 11 vibes. I hope to see a season 2.Was this review helpful to you?

A Masterpiece in Crime Drama
When I watched "Chief Detective 1958," directed by Kim Hyung-Sik, I was immediately captivated by its storytelling and atmosphere. Kim, a seasoned director, skillfully crafted a narrative that dives deep into the gritty, tense world of 1950s Seoul. His direction brings out the best in the actors and keeps the plot engaging and immersive.Cinematography:
Park Seung-Wook's cinematography is a visual treat, authentically capturing the era's essence. The strategic use of lighting and angles effectively portrays the suspenseful and often grim atmosphere of the city's streets and alleyways. This visual storytelling enhances the narrative, making each scene more vivid and compelling.
Acting:
The acting in this drama is top-notch. Lee Je-Hoon's portrayal of Park Young-Han is both powerful and relatable. He embodies the character's determination and vulnerability as he fights against corruption. Lee Dong-Hwi, playing the maverick detective Kim Sang-Sun, adds a dynamic and unpredictable element to the series. Their performances, along with those of Yoon Hyun-Soo and Choi Woo-Sung, are strong and nuanced, bringing their complex characters to life
Music:
The soundtrack, composed by B.B and Dasol, perfectly complements the drama's mood. The music heightens the tension and underscores emotional moments beautifully. Tracks like "100 Wins" by Seo Eun-Kwang of BtoB are particularly memorable and give a contemporary touch to the historical setting.
Rewatch Value:
"Chief Detective 1958" has significant rewatch value. Each viewing reveals new details and layers within the plot and characters. The detailed production design and the depth of the performances make it a series that remains engaging upon multiple watches.

If you like Crime, Action it's for you
As expected from Lee Je Hoon it's a really good Action drama with a strong and witty lead character. He managed to form a great team by using the people who are kinda disaster for other but he knows how to use people. Story line is going good so far without dragging the drama.About love story they kinda rush it but I am not complaining about it. It's actually amusing for me that they let them marry early and without any hurdles. That shows the simplicity of that time in my opinion which is really good.
If you didn't start that drama till yet go and watch it. It's a recommended drama.
Let's talk about the ending which is not happen yet. I hate sad ending and for this drama it's seems like it's a definitely a happy ending. Let's talk about the rest after ending the drama.

This kdrama just entered my top5
Past few weeks waiting for every weekend so I could watch new episodes was so much fun and even though it was only 10 episodes we went through so many stories with Unit 1 that I didn't even realize how short it is in reality!I must say that all of those stories and all of the characters were so well done made. I was bit confused by the ending but then I did little research and found out that actors of detectives of Unit 1 aren't here with us anymore so that ending made me tear up a little not gonna lie.
Anyways, I'll miss weekends with you Detective Park, Detective Kim, Detective Cho, Detective Seo and Chief Yu! I hope that in some universe you're together still investigating and catching the bad guys! I promise that one day I'll come back and spend the time rewatching this amazing drama again! Totally loved it!

The story is good but not satisfied the ending
The overall story of this drama is good from actors, story, production is on point however the ending was not satisfied. It left me hanging what happen to his team. After the promotion within the team, goes to the present day and they all dead like what happen?Overall, applaud to the actors, production team for a very good experience that justice can still serve with the right authority. We will just hope to this day that we can still hope to be served to common people.

Camaraderie and fighting justice!
I like how the writer goes back in time in order for the story to go full circle!! This star studded cast will keep you on the edge of your sit while they fight crime and corruption within their city and elsewhere. Comedic at times which keeps you captivated alongside the camaraderie amongst themselves and their boss. A beautiful love story evolves plus if you love crime stories; you will definitely watch this drama series. This is a very well written story with all the twists and turns within the police department, the rich and not so rich people. Was this review helpful to you?
Educational & Compelling Time Capsule
I’d never heard of the original drama before, so I find myself astounded by the depth of historical detail and emotions I’m feeling after watching this prequel. Having now read that the kind old grandfather, Choi Bool Am, was the original Inspector Park, I’m even more touched and impressed. As another comment stated, Lee Je Hoon’s Detective/Chief Park is a subdued version of his Taxi Driver character. But while elements were similar, he still made this role uniquely his own. The cases changed each episode, but the thread of his moral character as a police officer remained consistent, and you couldn’t help but root for him and his circle of friends and family.
I loved all the cameos from notable actors, in particular, Kim Min Jae who was quite convincingly awful. I enjoyed the leap back in time learning about what was happening in the post Korean War years, watching good old fashioned sleuthing, being amazed at how much change S Korea has achieved in a relatively short period of time, and what remain challenges to this day.
I too would have like another couple of episodes, and I’m not totally against another season, but I think the ending was bittersweet and poignant as it stands, and I hate the thought that the elder actor might not be here to participate. I highly recommend this homage to the elder originals, and for the quality of the drama in its own right.
