On a volcanic island located southeast of Taiwan lives an indigenous Tao community of Austronesian descent. A-Lan, from the younger generation, returns home and finds a way of living, yet he is still torn between the traditional and the modern life. There is more that needs to be done; A-Lan's anxiety seems to be hanging in the air. What is happening on this island is a representation of what's happening in Taiwan.
