Mitsunori Yagawa is a tuner entrusted with several pianos that survived the atomic bombing in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. He repairs and plays these bombed pianos by himself, spreading the message of peace while driving around the country. Meanwhile, Eguchi Nanako, a university student, learns that her mother, Kumiko, has donated one of their bombed pianos. She happens to meet Yagawa in one of his bombed-piano concerts. Through Yagawa, Nanako traces back to her roots while learning about her grandmother, the bombed pianos, and Hiroshima.
