The awful subtitling spoiled this for me, but...

I was hooked on this story - not overly complicated, but with characters I liked and others that I deplored. If I could have followed the story much better and understood the plot more. The chemistry between the ML & FL was fantastic - and carried the whole series for me.

Nothing complicated about this story - just short and sweet - both seasons. A little more effort could have been made for the final episode, but I was happy with the way it ended, so no real complaints for a mini-series.

All that being said, I really do NOT like these mini-episode dramas. I prefer the regular format and longer durations so that the story can be developed (hopefully) and the audience can get invested in the characters and the story itself.

I would probably re-watch this if I could find it with decent subtitles - that would make all the difference in the world.

Great season 2 but not for the faint of heart

This is a really good short show. Season 2 is more serious and in some parts dark. I’ve read a lot of comments saying this is a bad season and I considered not watching any of the seasons based on that. As you can see I ended up watching anyway - and I’m glad I did.
Some of the controversy is about using rape as part of the story - not once but twice. I can understand why that is unacceptable for a lot of viewers. Since I’m european I have a different tolerance to things used in a show/movie and even if I don’t condone the use of rape, I will not let that keep me form watching an otherwise great show/movie.
The first rape was unnecessary in my opinion since the problem could have been solved otherwise. The second was more relevant since it served as a way to show how much the desire for power had corrupted him (trying not to spoil too much).
It’s kind of sad that what’s being discussed after season 2 is the rapes and not the story of these two in many ways great people who love and support each other so beautifully. They help each other get revenge and heal their wounds. In the process they mature and become the pillars the country needs to stand on. They are by far the best power-couple I’ve seen so far.
So, if you love a somewhat lighthearted romantic drama - and can see past the use of rape - this is a “Must Watch”.

So much potential. Remember this is a short drama

I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprise by this drama. You can tell that they have budget and time restraints as this is a small production. However, from the very first shot, you can tell that some talented ppl worked on this show. The camera work is interesting and add to the tension of the story. For a short low budget drama, I was expecting boring directing and camera work and all over place cuts. The camera work is very intentional and well thought out. The director really did a beautiful job for what they were giving. The writing is a bit lacking but if it has had the chance to be longer and more flesh out, it could have been be very good. The premise was interesting and intense but the short episodes mean lots of editing issue and character development is cut short. The color grading is quite well done and it highlight the darker tone of the story well while also hide the low production budget flaws.
Acting is surprisingly great. Both leads did a beautiful job. I wish they had a more thought out script to really show off their range and give their character more justice. However, even for the part they have, they really made you believe their characters. All the supports did a great job as well. I will be looking out for these actors. Overall, just know that you are watching a short idol drama still, so don't expect top level production. THere are constraints beyond what the production can do. However, it was quite well done given its genre and it makes me wonder what this whole crew and cast could have accomplished if they had ability to do exactly how they want things to be and get a full 24-30 full hour long episode. This would have really blow a lot of other shows out of the water.... Watch it with an open mind and just appreciate it for what it is.

Series 1 and series 2, harmless reflections! But spoilers !!

The great love of the FL was the worst criminal and murderer. This is how the story starts. He stabbed FL because of her rival and cut out her heart. O yes, where love goes!

And her later husband ML is left with what was left after FL's rebirth, a laboriously constructed implausible love story. A little lovey-dovey and all is well. Chemistry? Hardly! And, whoops, she almost had sex with his alter ego in the cave. After all, she'd known him for a few hours.

But ML clings to love even after FL leaves him rather arbitrarily. In fact, she betrayed ML significantly more seriously with her past.

And her final revenge against the 3rd prince in episode II/16 is poor. Is that what all the fuss is about? His atrocious crimes like cut out heart, murders etc. are held up to him in a tired speech, a little reproach and complaining, and she herself is done and dusted.
ML then becomes emperor. Why can't FL, as his wife-consort, go to the palace with him?
Lots of authors messy crap.

Interesting Story With Great Acting

This review is for seasons 1 and 2 since both iterations together make up one tale. The acting here is excellent and I liked the plot - the idea of a girl exchanging bodies with another woman who just happens to be in a position to get even with the first girl's killer was riveting. The relationship development between hero He Lian Xuan and our heroine Li/Qi is terrific - we see her become his fierce protector and as a result, he comes out of the shadows to be the best version of himself. I loved the chemistry between the actors and thought they did a great job playing their roles. The storyline was a bit choppy at times, probably due to its brevity but that mostly worked. There is a scene that is extremely poorly explained, however - the revenge against Yun Ji is written off as being a "stay away from my man or else" scenario when in fact we know from the start Yun Ji is a spy sent to hurt them by Concubine Liu. The story also doesn't examine that Yun Ji is one of the people who used to bully Qi and the two are actually half-sisters from my understanding. Those factors - along with the honey trap aspect used in the original written form - would have made this scene more palatable if explained. Also, the FL runs away at two different points, a behavior that is completely out of character with her confrontational approach to life during the rest of the show. I overall enjoyed it though and would recommend it.

Problematic with some nice moments

The 2nd season was definitely a bit of a let down. I found myself checking repeatedly to see how much more is left midway. I'm going to share spoilers to explain why I had issues with this half of the show.

First, the positives in the show. The husband is shown growing in responsibility but continues to be loving and kind. The sweet couple moments are enjoyable. The way they overcome different obstacles is fun (mostly).

The disappointments:
I genuinely enjoyed seeing the duality of the husband in the first season, but because the wife was angry with him for it, he abandons that identity completely. The male lead looked so impressive in the white wig! It was part of his charm. I never understood why she could not accept this side to him when she herself was hiding that she was not the person he thought she was. He completely accepted her. Why couldn't she? At least if that was explained maybe I could accept it.

Sexual assault trigger warning! The couple get a potential concubine by allowing to her to get molested by a creep. I thought they would formally introduce her so he decides to wed her. That would have been better. Apparently the manga explains this far better but I have to go by what was depicted in the series. Later, another prince gives away his wife without her consent to the same molester in exchange for power. These are very off-putting plot points.

Apart from these, the story was alright. It picks up towards the end.

A short drama with gripping story and great chemistry

Most short dramas have very basic plots and invests more on cute scenes rather than angsty ones. So The Only Girl You Haven’t Scene was such a surprise because it’s the opposite of the short drama formats.

|Plot/Story worthy of long format dramas|
Based on a webtoon/manwha/animation, TOGYHS has a well thought out and gripping story about the reincarnated FL and mysterious ML. Similar to the setup of My Lovely Swords Girl, it has the arranged marriage and “weak” ML at the center of the drama. There are so many layers of intrigue/twists that I’m surprised that the drama was able to hash all the twists in the end.
Main plot was the arranged marriage between FL and weak ML. Another plot about the secrets that the ML has. Another is FLs revenge on the MLs brother. Then there’s the thing about the ML surviving court life. Everything is just so interesting.

|Great acting by the newbie cast and good chemistry between the main leads|
As an avid Chinese drama watcher, I’m so surprised to see the FL (Weng Mo Yan) having normal beauty, deep voice, and still deliver the chemistry with her ML. On the other end, the ML (Wang Su Yi) is a cross between your typical flower boy and fierce model look — similar to Lee So Yuk. The ML did a great job in portraying his 2 personas (as the dumb and weak husband, and the scheming, smart prince). Both Mo Yan and Su Yi also delivered during their emptionally charged scenes and whatever time they had together on screen — you can really feel the chemistry cackling between them.

This drama had great potential to be another epic drama because of the plot and cast, but saddly it is also plagued by the low budget, dark lighting in some scenes, and the unavailability of good subs. I was only barely able to understand the drama when it initially aired but thankfully Yoyo fun station subbed the drama.

Overall, if you have time in your hands, this is a good drama to watch if you want something gripping and romantic but don’t have the time to watch 36+ episode standard dramas.

An unexpected SURPRISE!

Just finished watching this series on You Tube. It was in my recommendation feed. This series although short packed a punch. Like many of you, I fell in love with the ML He is so Freaking Cuteee! His Smile is EVERYTHING. I Liked the FL as well. Strong , Smart, don't take no S**t from nobody kind of heroine. There some missing holes, It wasn't clear at first if this was one of those " We switched souls/bodies kind of series", but it was. Loved everything up until the Zombie in the Mountain trash. The series stumbled there. The reconciliations with her siblings/family were nice. The attempted Assassination of the King at the end of S! made no sense, and the ending...her throwing herself in the lake after she discovered his identity made no sense based on the prior development of the FL. That was a big disappointment to me. From What I am hearing S2 will no be so good. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the 3hrs and 05 minutes it took to watch the entire series. I would still recommend if you ae looking for something enjoyable to watch.

The clueless prince and his smart consort

You know how often in K dramas you have a strong female character at the beginning of a drama. She is smart, intelligent, sassy and beautiful. She has a brain! And then she falls in love and her every brain cell stops functioning: she can barely speak, she keeps falling over, she becomes stupid and incompetent. Luckily there is the MAN to save her and get her to hospital when she cuts her finger on a piece of a broken glass.

I do not know if it is the same in c dramas: I am a relative newcomer and all I watch are short costume dramas.

And this one did a K drama turnabout on me, with a twist! The one losing all brain power us the man in the story! Reversal of typical drama character roles! Interesting and novel choice of plot device!

So the first season ended with her finding out that he had been leading a double life. She angry about it and she leaves while he is left weeping in the middle of the road! Two years later he is still horribly missing her, he's depressed and moping about having no will to do anything. His father decides to get him married again but his brother and his mother plot against him in order to get rid of competition for the throne. The girl finds out and comes back.

The second season is her show: she's the one thinking, seeing the plots behind fake smiles, figuring out how to bring the palace plotters to light. While she is thinking, he is just following her around like a faithful dog so happy to have her back! This season is also more about the succession struggle and palace conspiracy than their love story which takes a back seat. They love each other, she is back, he is happy. That's it for him and them!

Unfortunately we do not get to see his alter ego, the white haired fan thrower, or enjoy the funny banter between them. The spark is missing from their romance and from his character! What a let down! He eventually defeats all plots and wins the throne but only after a few important people had died and with him just being completely clueless throughout! The only thing really important to him is her and even when he finds out she had been lying to him, he does not care as long as she stays with him! His behaviour is akin the usual drama FL!

The story was boring: plot upon conspiracy upon lies in order to win the throne. The main couple really took the back seat here: I guess they did not have anything more to say about them so they expanded upon the side characters.

The actors were charming and had good chemistry. The kissing scenes were bad, yucky to tell the truth: it looked like they did not really know what to do! The guy playing the third prince was rather amazing going from sweet to scary to mean to polite quickly.

You can watch this if you want to see how they end up together but they could have done it in twe episodes instead of 18 mercifully very short episodes.

This review is for seasons 1 and 2 together.

This review is for seasons 1 and 2. Both seasons are fantastic. The cast did a great job bringing their characters to life and the leading couple has a splendid relationship that develops into a beautiful, steadfast, and heartwarming romance with very good chemistry. It is refreshing to see He Lian Xuan (played by Wang Zu Yi) and Leng Li/A Qi (played by Wen Mo Yan), two very intelligent characters, as they get closer and stronger to become a devoted power couple. Since it is a miniseries divided into two seasons, it is best to see one right after the other to appreciate that, although the production is not perfect, the both seasons are well done in matters of production value. These miniseries have a substantial plot that could have been better served if turned into a long format drama. Overall, both seasons are worth watching and entertaining. Enjoy it!.
