Gone with the wind
About half way through I realized this was a Korean version of Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind". (American book and movie). I liked Gil Chae better than Scarlet O'Hara, but Rett Butler better than Jang Hyun. Eun Jin and Yeon Jun were exactly as incipit as Melanie and Ashley.Even the title, "My Dearest" relates to Rett's famous last words. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give damn".
Very good show, but is this plagerism?
The ending was different. In the American version Scarlet marries Rett and has a child. They are happy until the child dies accidentlly. Will this be a second season?

This ancient Playboys
Description says ML is Playboy of 1600she has been dating many girls
but dating was invented after 1600s so how you describe what he was doing as dating because dating did not exist in that era

in those time China Virginity was as important as life for a woman and they easily give it him and then remain single whole life because on one gone marry A second hand woman according to that era
so there were no consequence of his actions at all.

My Dearest? More like My Detachment.
I gave this drama a solid shot — halfway through of part one, even. The emotional core never quite clicked for me, and the female lead didn’t help matters. She was written in that frustrating mix of arrogance and self-righteousness that makes empathy hard work. I could see what the show wanted me to feel, but I just couldn’t get there.Visually, yes — it’s stunning. The production is polished, the cinematography is rich, and the atmosphere is undeniably crafted with care. But I’m not someone who gets swept up by aesthetics alone. Then I heard about the double amnesia arc in part two and immediately checked out. Once is lazy; twice is punishment.
I get why others might call this a masterpiece — but I don’t use that word lightly. Personally, I wouldn’t even call my top-rated dramas that — feels like artistic blasphemy to Michelangelo and Da Vinci. Let’s just say this drama might be great for others, but for me? It was a gorgeous miss.

Good stakes but tonal whiplash
I know this entire series is highly regarded and there are moments where I can completely see why — it’s probably one of the most high-stakes historical dramas I’ve ever seen, and the acting and production value are all great. In this first batch of 10 episodes though, I found the tonal inconsistencies to be really difficult to keep up with. The first episodes are really light-hearted, and we have a really spoiled main female character; this definitely makes for good character development later on as layers get peeled back and we start seeing that there’s much more to her, but those first few episodes were really hard to sit through. That combined with a similar obnoxious personality for our male lead meant that I didn’t really root for our leads to be together — not until later. It doesn’t help that the show uses a lot of tropes that I don’t really buy into or that I find frustrating, like dream symbolism or miscommunications.
About halfway, the heavy stuff starts, and that’s when I start to care about it. The political strategy stuff is not always the most interesting to watch, but seeing the FL become stronger and try to protect her friends was great, and probably the highlight of the season. Which is why it kind of jarring weird when the tone suddenly reverted back to being bright again when the previous conflict was resolved. And then it went back to being dark again when another conflict was introduced. I’m not against moments of humor in shows with life-or-death stakes, but I think it wasn’t balanced very well between scenes or episodes.
I’m a little sad that I didn’t like this as much as the rest, but I still have high hopes for Part 2.

HATED IT
I went into this not knowing that there were 2 seasons actually, so I thought there were just 10 episodes. The female lead held on to her pride and ego and was cold towards the male lead the entire time until about 15 minutes before the very last episode ended and then she ran away with him from her engagement to another dude.So she decided that she wanted to be with the male lead only to literally leave him waiting for her at a port that she had promised to meet him at after she said a final goodbye to her dad. I've never hated a female lead as much as this .... She was so infuriating! No matter how many times he told her how much he loved her and literally, he said, "I'll be your servant, you have my heart and soul etc", that still wasn't enough to convince her that he really loved her, she literally had no reason to believe that he was fooling around with her, he was always so sincere anyway. It's not even worth watching the second season because of how infuriating she is, and I just am so heartbroken for the male lead like he thought he was finally going to have a future with her, but she turned around and went back to the other guy, I understand that she didn't want to leave her, dad behind but she could've sent for her dad later. It's not like she would've never seen her dad again. That was not a valid enough reason. shes literally such a horrible character, and whoever the writer is honestly the worst writer I've ever seen, and I've watched hundreds of K-dramas, and hundreds of Chinese dramas, I've never seen anything like this show. I don't understand why everybody loved it. Also its freaking sad because their servants were in love too and now they just dont get to be together because of her idiocy??!! And whats with his singer friend who freaking never wanted them to be together since the beginning? Is he freaking secretly in love with the ML or what cuz he was jealous ever since the FIRST time he saw her with the ML and he even gave the ML a dagger that said my beloved or something, that was the dagger he later gave to FL am i right? What a creep...being in love with your super good friend??!! The the FL was in love with her BEST FRIENDS MAN for pretty much all 10 epiosdes!!! Are you kidding me??!! To be honest idk why ML would want her when he knew she was a skank,he saw her trying to steal her best friends dude and just kept chasing her anyway.... Dude if youre in love with your best friends dude and actively try to trick him into kissing you and falling for him etc then you are a horrible human being. Why is no one writing about this in the reviews??!! She had been dreaming about ML for so long but his face was always blurry so she didnt know who it was and when she found out it was ML you would think it would be the turning point like youre litterally dreaming of your soulmate and you found out its the guy chasing you but yet you still dont forget about your BFFs dude??!! WHO WROTE THISSSSS...if you hate misunderstandings, pride, ego, never saying what you really feel, pushing people away even though you are falling for them etc FOR HEAVENS SAKE AVOID THIS SHOW AT ALL COSTS!! Who would want to watch a second season of this chick??!!! Ive never written such a bad review on here you can literally go and check but this was a complete dumpster fire i only kept watching cuz google said it was a happy ending but i didnt know that was at the end of season 2 😭😭 the only reason i dodnt rate it even lower is because of the cinematography, the voice of the singer and the MLs lovely smileWas this review helpful to you?
A Perfect Return to Sageuk
I hadn’t watched a sageuk in a very long time, and Part 1 felt like the perfect comeback. It slowly pulled me in with its atmosphere, quiet tension, and a love story that grows naturally amid chaos and uncertainty. Emotional without being rushed, it made me reconnect with the genre in the best way.Was this review helpful to you?

Was this review helpful to you?
