Yuta, a sixth grade elementary school student, transferred to a branch school in Yunohana Village, a hot spring village in the mountains of Tohoku, where his mother was born. One day, he learns about the legend of the Zashikiwarashi, a yokai, from old man Torakichi, who works at the hot spring inn Ginrinso. Soon, Yuta forms deep friendship with the weird local ghost, who likes to play tricks on people.
