Ajikawa Bangaku is a masterless samurai, bound only to his treasured sword. During a visit to an old friend, he discovers that a self-serving magistrate has diverted a river into his private garden, leaving farmers desperate for water. As Bangaku contemplates an offer to guard the very dam that causes their suffering, he’s approached by Yukie, a noblewoman pleading for his help to destroy it. Torn between loyalty and compassion, Bangaku must choose whether to serve the oppressive lord or aid the villagers in their fight for survival.
