An absolute hidden gem worth discovering.
Agent from Above demonstrates the immense potential of Asian fantasy when it moves away from overused tropes. This Taiwanese series manages to stand out by seamlessly weaving local folklore into a visually ambitious, action-packed story.A Mystical Yet Everyday Universe
The most fascinating aspect of the plot is how seamlessly it immerses the viewer into a world where gods, spirits, and mortals coexist naturally without getting bogged down in endless exposition. Rooted deeply in Taiwanese folklore, the narrative follows Han Chieh, an imperfect protagonist haunted by guilt over his past, who serves as an envoy for the Third Crown Prince (also known as the Lotus Prince). Armed with magical artifacts to preserve the balance between good and evil, his duty feels both grounded and high-stakes. While the initial episode can feel a bit confusing as you adapt to its world-building, the storytelling quickly gains traction and settles into an engaging rhythm.
The relationship between Han Chieh and the Third Crown Prince stands out remarkably, but the true emotional core lies in the bond between Han Chieh and Ye Zi. Beneath his stern, rough exterior lies a deep, protective brotherly warmth that shines through in deeply touching moments. Ye Zi's final letter was deeply moving and heartfelt, giving a beautiful ending to their story.
The visual effects are truly mind-blowing and stand out as one of the show's absolute highlights. From iconic elements like the fiery ring to sweeping, dragon-shaped fire constructs and the creative action sequences revolving around magical, burning ang-á-phiau (traditional Taiwanese picture disks used as tokens), the high-quality VFX brilliantly bring the story's mythology to life. Furthermore, the artistic direction creates a captivating atmosphere, while lighthearted comedy is sprinkled throughout, balancing the darker supernatural threats without undercutting the emotional weight of the drama.
Even with minor flaws in execution and an ending that leaves several plot threads unresolved, leaving the door open for a much-desired second season, it remains a thoroughly enjoyable ride. It is a compelling, underrated gem that is well worth watching from start to finish.

Unfortunately, this is real :) the drama is frilly but ep 8 from min 31 has THE message
This is so ... well... I dont know how to say it - so revealing of Chinese culture, this very strong belief that this is real. And in fact... it is :)The filming and topic totally reminds me of Stephen Chow movies, such as Kung Fu Hustle and its dark poor and/or underground hoods. And It has this wickedly twisted dark humor, such as Third Crown Prince looking like a hippie-biker with a lollypop...
The movie has all this glitz special effects
but the value of the movie is the very rare but powerful dialogue, such as Buffy's dying message towards the end of ep 8, starting at min 31.
She asked him to love the world for her, whether it is messy and even the gods cannot do anything about it.
She said: "I that the ones who might really change the world for the better are just ordinary people like us. "
She asked him to wish for world peace. Bc -
An old man told her once:
magic cannot defeat spiritual power,
spiritual power cannot defeat karma,
and karma cannot defeat a wish.
So a person with a wish is strongest of all.
So actually the drama should be rated 10 for the messages
I gave it 8 bc of all the frills :) I watched ep 1,2 and then fast forwarded through all the special effects etc
and watched ep 8
Buffy Chen is an amazing actress, really.

One Good; Two Bad
There might be a worth while story/show here. I ran into two obstacles and dropped it, but there's a strong positive.Obstacle one is that the lead actor, Ko Chen Tung, does not have the on screen presence needed to carry the series. He's playing a character in a Constantine mold which forces a comparison with Keanu Reeves of the Constantine movie, and with Matt Ryan of the Constantine TV series and he suffers badly lacking the charisma needed. The second obstacle, for me, is that the production is lacking the smooth plotting and directing of a typical average Korean production.
On the positive side is the sidekick character, played by Buffy Chen, does have a lot of on screen charisma and she steals every scene. She's playing a quirky little odd tag-a-long with the lead. She's almost enough to make it worth watching, but unfortunately, for me, not enough to overcome the lead's flaws.
If you like Chinese dramas and or like the lead then I recommend giving it try.

Um Agente do Além foi uma série agradável de acompanhar, mas acabou por não me marcar tanto quanto esperava. A premissa é interessante e mistura mistério, fantasia e alguns momentos emocionantes, o que torna a história divertida em vários episódios.Gostei especialmente da química entre as personagens e de algumas cenas mais emocionais, que deram mais profundidade à trama. A série também consegue manter um ambiente leve na maior parte do tempo, mesmo com os elementos sobrenaturais.
No entanto, senti que faltou algo para realmente me prender do início ao fim. Em certos momentos, o ritmo ficou um pouco previsível e algumas situações podiam ter sido melhor desenvolvidas. Não achei uma série má, apenas não teve aquele fator “uau” que faz ficar a pensar nela depois de terminar.
No geral, é um dorama bom para passar o tempo, especialmente para quem gosta de histórias sobrenaturais leves, mas sem esperar algo muito impactante.

La storia mescola con equilibro azione, mistero e fantasy grazie a un mix ben calibrato di elementi.
I due attori protagonisti, Kochen Tung e Jacop Wang, già visti in altri progetti, si confermano convincenti anche in questi ruoli, regalandoci interpretazioni coinvolgenti: soprattutto il secondo si è calato alla perfezione nel ruolo del Terzo Principe Ereditario, risultando sia impertinente che di gran cuore. Forse, proprio per la somiglianza con la sua storia passata, prende sotto la sua ala il giovane Han Chieh che diventerà il suo agente divino sottomesso, anche se in apparenza sembra voglia solo prenderlo in giro o punirlo.
Grazie alla presenza degli spiriti, Agent from Above è una di quelle storie che riesce a celebrare la vita e soprattutto il ricordo dei cari che ci hanno lasciato trattando il tema della morte.
Tantissimi sono i rimandi alla mitologia cinese, in particolare alla leggenda di Nezha, il Terzo Principe Ereditario, che in Italia abbiamo imparato a conoscere grazie ai due film usciti nelle sale cinematografiche. Il drama è più godevole se riusciamo a individuare i rimandi alla tradizione cinese, ma la visione rimane comunque scorrevole per chi ne è digiuno o non ne ha familiarità.
Il doppiaggio italiano, ben azzeccato e gradevole, permette di seguire la storia senza distrazioni, potendosi concentrare sulle scene d’azione, sui bellissimi costumi e gli affascinanti effetti speciali.
