Where it is particularly dark, even a tiny little bit of light appears immensely bright...

I ended my review about the first seasons with the conclusion: "I only recommend "The Escape of the Seven" if the mood is right - one that demands unfathomable beastliness down to the blood. If we get involved in this KDrama, then we will uncompromisingly be catapulted into a world in which a search for the good guys could very well be in vain..."

And obviously, things can always get even worse. At the same time, a wink of a conscience is actually making itself known here and there… very quietly, though. Regret and shame become concepts that are though stumbling trying to make themselves be heard. It's evidently not that easy, but maybe, who knows, it might not be impossible…

Still, the Seven can't easily get out of their skin. It´s way too serious what they had done and must be held accountable for. Even if they all go through their own processes and would perhaps like to choose a new path in some way (fortunately, people have the potential for healing and transformation), they can neither run away nor undo what has happened. In addition, they have made a pact with the devil... No matter which devil you get involved with, it rarely goes well...

The second season cleverly manages to build on the first one with fresh dynamics, while still giving the emotional rollercoaster ride a new direction. Sophisticated dramaturgical twists included. It's amazing to notice ourselves suddenly sympathizing with one or the other of the loathsome Seven...

In addition, the KDrama is vividly displaying the frighteningly diabolical (not too distant) future scenarios of our increasingly digitally depending information society, that in the worst case scenario, could become completely helpless in its interconnectedness...

Overall, I think “Escape of the Seven” is even winning with its second season. It offers a special KDrama experience that has it all - for all those who don't shy away from the abysm of the human species. And as is well known, where it is particularly dark, even a tiny little bit of light appears immensely bright...

A Bold Fusion of Classic Drama and Modern Excess

(will do an update soon)

The Escape of the Seven is a passionate rollercoaster of intense drama and extravagant storytelling, infused with a touch of witty, dark humor and comic relief characters. In the best way possible, the series presents a thrilling departure from traditional K-dramas, pushing the boundaries of the genre and showcasing drama in its purest form—truly a celebration of Korean dramaturgy in all its glory.

Plot and Themes: The drama centers around seven villains, each embodying a deadly sin, whose lives are intertwined with that of an innocent girl. As the characters navigate a series of dramatic and often absurd events, the show delves into themes of justice, technology, societal decay, revenge, and more that I cannot spoil. The narrative cleverly blends classical influences with modern elements, drawing on references from Dante’s Divine Comedy, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Avengers and more, all presented in a dynamic, comic-style format. The storyline is both picaresque and epic, delivering a modern twist on classic revenge tales.

Season 1: The first season introduces viewers to a world where logic takes a backseat to spectacle. The characters are exaggerated, the situations are outlandish, and the drama is unrelenting. It's a relentless, most extreme surge of drama and intrigue from the start, consistently delivering high-octane intensity. The production values are top-notch, with a substantial budget allowing for an impressive cinematic experience. The intense, chaotic, even dream-like nature of the show might not be for everyone, but those who embrace its twisted narrative will find a fascinating and immersive experience. While it may be the ultimate escape from reality, it also brings you back to it in the most powerful way, creating a captivating paradox—though I won’t spoil the details.

Season 2: The second season shifts to a more somber tone, marked by a more serious atmosphere. Picking up from the intense finale of Season 1, it adds layers of complexity and deepens the narrative, featuring stunning cinematography with a colder, more mysterious aesthetic that contrasts sharply with the vibrant and flashy first season.

Performances and Production: The cast delivers compelling performances, with each actor fully committing to their roles. The production design, including costumes and sets, reflects the show's extravagant and larger-than-life quality. The soundtrack, with its mix of classical and modern elements, complements the show’s grandiose style, enhancing the overall experience.

Overall: The Escape of the Seven is a dramatic triumph with a twist of the outrageous. In a world where truth is increasingly an abstract concept, this drama brilliantly conveys that, all while being both chaotic and intelligent. If you're willing to embrace its wild ride, it promises to be a memorable, creatively-charged experience.

Advices: Always watch the intro, the end-of-episode visuals accompanied by the music and the closing logo, and the credits at the end of each season. The only thing you can skip is the preview for the next episode. Additionally, I’ll share some links in the comments. A cool detail to note: the logo features a dual design, with one side displaying the title of the first season and the other side showing the title of the second season. I discovered this neat touch in a YouTube video where the logo flips over. Also, don’t miss the bonus scenes in Season 2. (They do not appear after the previews, of course.)

To the critics: Kindly step aside and let the thrill-seekers revel in the madness. I didn’t find my bliss with Penthouse—no apologies there—but The Escape of the Seven is a different beast entirely. It’s a fresh, unique experience, and without a doubt, the richest drama in terms of content. Now, I’m even considering diving into The Last Empress. Here’s to embracing the self-aware, wildly imaginative chaos!
