Both characters start as strangers to each other, though 18×2 focuses strictly on the relationship between the FL (Female Lead) and ML (Male Lead), splitting the story 50/50 between the past and the present. Meanwhile, 20th Century Girl includes more of a high school and friendship vibe.
Their biggest similarity lies in the ending. Yes, in both stories, one of the main characters passes away, leaving the other yearning for them for nearly 20 years. The difference is that in 20th Century Girl, they don't know that [the other person] has died, whereas in 18×2, they actually know.
