Part 1 starts with Hani and Lai hanging out under a star apple tree, exchanging secrets about their little town: the sacristan who’s the son of a priest, their high school teacher who has tryst with a student, their gay classmate who has a sex video, Lei’s parents whose marriage is falling apart, and a spinster-aunt who moves in with her girlfriend. While enjoying these secrets, Hani and Lai’s lesbian relationship develops, creating their own secret under the shade of the tree. After their graduation, circumstances force them to part ways. Part 2 happens a year later when their friend, Jo An, is marrying out of wedlock. The two reunite having no communication since their parting. As they share their last moment under the shade of the star apple tree, they realize how they are forever changed by their reunion. Family and societal pressures have done that.
