There is nothing hilarious here - Move Along

Here is what the drama promised: "The story of how people who hate each other the most become the wildest, weirdest, yet hilarious family begins now!"

What you get is
-serial killer(I know, right? in a supposed COMEDY)
- a FL who starts out great but deteriorates in to a pile of stammering, non-sentences, when confronted by her ML's mom
-2 cheaters (call it what you want but those two had a thing going on, I don't care what the story says because a married man doesn't go to another woman's house and stay all night to give her medicine cause because he is worried as a friend)
- a delusional-whining-crazy ex (see below) who thinks everyone should do as she says because it is all about her,
-another delusional stalker colleague that won't take no for an answer,
-a POLICEMAN who thinks the stalker can do no wrong even when she tells him she is going to break up her victim's relationship (it's his sister's relationship),
- a 37 year old hot tempered woman who acts like she is 14,
- her half-sister who is super flaky (but kind of likeable),
-a cafe owner who is raising a child (supposedly dumped on him by his ex??? ) but acts like he has never dated before
- a sister/sister-in-law who sold her own niece and nephew out over alimony money to give to a lover who dumped her and kept the truth from her sister for 30 years (how do you sit across from your own sister everyday for 30 years knowing you kept the truth from her - sick),
-a delusional-whining-crazy ex - yeah that one (see above) - woman who can't shut up about what happened 30 years previously (you feel for her at first but please know she is a snake in the grass) - she is remarried, supposedly loves her husband, has 2 great kids with him, yet can't stop droning on and on about how her first husband cheated on her and took her kids. Okay, I get the kids part - I'd go crazy too if my ex had taken my kids and left the country and I didn't see them for 30 years but this is 2023 - how can she not find these kids in the 30 years she has been looking??? Their names didn't change. When they entered the Philippines to live for 17 years they had to registered in that country somehow. It's not like she didn't have the money to find them - but I digress because no matter how long i think about this the writers are JUST not going to make this make sense - she moans and moans and moans till you get sick of it.

The only person I ended up liking in this whole drama was Kang Seon Woo. He is the only one who has any common sense and wanted to keep his relationship with Eun Sung going (she flaked on him too - loser FL character).

There isn't anything funny about this drama past eps 20 something. It's contentious, dark at times, nasty, hateful, spiteful, delusional, and whacked.

Save yourself the trouble and skip this one.

**edited - I came back after pausing for 3 weeks at ep 78 and caught up to current episode. My thoughts on this drama mentioned above in my review, sadly, have not changed one iota so far. The fact that they added 10 more episodes to this train wreck makes you want to scream to the heavens "whyyyy???"

OMG....... I need a puke bucket

I had dropped this and decided to pick it back up and see it out to the end.

But I pick it back up and then come to learn that they added more eps. stop the pain... will ya
This is one of the worse written and acted shows I've ever seen!
The male lead "sigh" as handsome as I think he is his character ain't all that bright.
The female lead.. is an air head and can't stand up to her parents. Let the sfl for most of the show bully her and walk clean over her and she sat there every time with a dumb grin on her face like she was mute.
The female lead not able to convey in her acting that she's actually in love with the male lead.
There's just no romantic chemistry coming from her towards the male lead. The male lead on the other hand now later on in the show now your able to see that his character loves the female lead's character.
Then there's both sets of parents... I think I'd cramp my hands if I go into what a disaster both sets of parents are.
The rest of the supporting cast are just as bad. The little kid actor that plays Ga Ram however is doing a great job. The actor that plays the role of Min Guk is not only one fine specimen of man... lol but I have to admit is able to play the role of a fool pretty well.

If I can describe this series in one word, it would be “messy.” Yes, I’m aware that family dramas are long and sometimes slow paced, I am accustomed to it, and I often find it enjoyable because it it really gives a good build up however, this one is different. From misunderstandings to missed opportunities to missing families this one has it all. It took most of the things that annoy people the most, and put it all into a series. For example, two people who are looking for each other would casually walk near each other, and for longevity and entertainment purposes, the writers, would have them see something shiny and look away at the exact moment they could look up and see each other. It happened so many times that it was just ridiculous.

Spoiler Below******
The reason that I called it, Messy, was because of the situation itself in truth it is a reflection of the synopsis, but when you watch episode one and two, you will begin to see why they mention relationship with an issue. This is why I said it was messy. The writers essentially connected to families to each other by parents and siblings, intermixed relationship and threw in one variable that would make the situation even more messy. To sound this up husband and wife divorce and they have two children. The wife later remarries a man that has a child and they have another. Years later , the ex husband’s stepdaughter and ex wife stepson fallin love. So to clarify, the step daughter is not biologically connected to her step siblings, but the stepson is biologically connected to the half-sister he got from his stepmother. This is the type of method that I’m talking about and to make it a story, so weird I don’t care how they dress this up, it’s just not good. If that wasn’t exciting enough for the writers, they threw in more crazy stuff. And then I’m sure everyone will live happily ever after. What I do you like about the series is that the acting is good, the love was portrayed really well, but it was just not enough to keep me fully invested Due to the strangeness over all of it ?

A Premise, A Promise, A Problem

I'll make it short - don't waste your time with this one.

In the wake of the last 2 dailies being back-to-back disasters (TLIYE & AOME), and a just concluded weekend drama that crashed & burned (TRHC), KBS tried to switch gears and tell us that the new daily was going to be full of fun and surprises: a wild and crazy ride was the promise. And on it surface, it sounded interesting as the premise of the show where exes become in-laws sounded potentially very funny.

But alas, there's the problem: The writers had no idea how to apply that premise to a script. The premise was nothing more than a talking point for KBS to try to lure back weary viewers, tired of mediocre & uninspired dramas.

This series SHOULD have worked. The female lead was the star of the last successful daily (BML, 2022) and was capable of playing an assertive, smart, tenacious woman. The supporting cast was full of veteran actors, all well-schooled in their craft. But something went horribly wrong here and we wound up with a series that once in every few weeks, would gift us with a clever funny scene, but otherwise just plodded along with nothing resembling the hilarity that was supposed to be presented. We got, instead, a dismal plot, full of holes and untapped potential, a story-line that made no sense time-wise, important events in the past that are barely mentioned, and an equally uninspired performance from the cast.

You can't fool veteran actors - they will perform up to the task as needed, but how can they make a silk purse out of the proverbial sow's ear? It became pretty evident that they were going thru the motions in the last third of the series. How they could screw up Nam SangJi's abilities as a FL boggles my mind. Ironically, the 2 best performances in the series are by the actresses that portrayed the supporting FLs - Lee HyoNa as HaYoung and Joo SaeByuk as EunAh. They were as terrific as SangJi was pedestrian.

This series COULD have been better, as the writers clearly had the potential to give us funny, touching, sweet scenes. But I can only attribute the lack of them on laziness on their part. This show needed a veteran, accomplished writer to go over the storyboard and rearrange the series correctly - focus the beginning of the show on the events of the past that dictated the actions of the elders later on. THEN, time-jump to the present, as was done successfully in BML. Then go back and figure out how to develop a comedic theme to the series - and eliminate the nonstop harpiness of the two mothers and their twisted characters. There was NOTHING funny about them.

Don't watch this show. You have better things to do with your time. And believe me, the cast and crew won't be using this pile of crap as a resume highlight anytime soon.

Shame on KBS for not only foisting this on us, but for adding salt to the wound by extending it for 10 more crappy episodes.
