Mixed opinion

At first, I was quite happy: good actors, a fun story and an original Japanese version that I liked. Atom and Mudmee's chaotic attitude is amusing and a good time is had by all.

The problem is that the story is too simple for a 12-episode series. So after a while, the series goes round in circles and you start to get a bit bored. The countless product placements don't help matters, quite the opposite in fact!

To sum up, although I initially preferred the Thai version, I'm now leaning towards the Japanese version.

are gemfourth really the protagonists?

Ok hear me out, I don't have anything against any actor and I don't blame any of them, this is more to the production and writers.

I started mlmu for gemfourth and bc I watched the original one (the Japanese) so I was really excited, the first ep were good (no the editing and colors) it was funny and entertaining but then it seems like gemfourth were not the main couple and I was confused cause I their story was the one I was interior. I don't understand what's the matter with having a straight couple which is suppose to be like a little extra and give them more focus than the main one?? their story was boring as hell and I ended up skipping their scenes. they could have made one of the best gemfourth series but ruined it with the excessive sound effects, terrible editing, bad story, bad direction etc. the only good thing was gemfourth and the ost. I feel so sorry for them cause they are amazing actors and deserve a better better for their next bl

Unfortunately quite boring and no real plot

After watching both of the main actors in "My school president" and my favorite series "Moonligt chicken", I couldn't help but watch this even though I'm tired of Thai school series. But even within this genre, this is a disappointment. There's no real plot and it's pretty lame, almost felt like a children's movie. The actors deserve to be in better series. I ended up fast-forwarding through the last few episodes just to know how it ended.

a show that even gem4th couldn't save.

it started out fine imo, I actually enjoyed it for the first 5-6 episodes. Fourth did a great job as atom. but then it got so so so stagnant at one point, almost sickeningly so.

the product placement might be the most annoying part, if I see one more euro cake ad, I will flip my table over.

I also feel like they could have expanded more on kongthap's character, especially when they do give a lot of depth to Atom's. it feels like an imbalance, where kongthap became a side character in his own story.

mudmee and half stole the show, although half just played the role of "Huh, what's happening here? I'm lost." for two thirds of the series.

it's just incredibly funny that at the end of the day, mudmee, a side character, had more depth to her than kongthap, the lead character.

I held hopes for this series even when most people dropped it, but it did kind of disappoint me.

one plus point is that I absolutely love the music for this series <3

A disaster..

Being already a fan of the manga, it was my most anticipated series of the year only to be left really disappointed. For the most part, the show stays loyal to the original material with all the necessary changes for cultural reasons, but the execution failed miserably. The story was buried under product placements and mass merch endorsement, one that I've never seen in any other bl going that hard. Some scene additions were totally unnecessary as well, offering nothing other than dragging the pace, when there was so much material to adapt already. All that combined with very childish music choices on the background. In all honesty, after a point I watched the episodes fast forward just to get on with it, with the only exception being the intro and the outro song, which I loved very much.

As for the cast, it couldn't have been more perfect. These four actors were excellent for the roles and did their best, but even with their skills I didn't manage to connect with the characters at all. And when the writing suffers there's so much an actor can do.

Despite all that, I do recommend this series to anyone who just wants to see a very fluffy and non dramatic story. It has its cute and fun moments here and there and if that's the type of series you enjoy you could give it a try.

So... what happened?

I noticed the low ratings before starting to watch this series, so all my expectations lowered from the beginning. I wasn't expecting MLMU to be exceptionally good or exceptionally bad: I just hoped I would enjoy it at least a little.
In the end, I did enjoy it, but I also feel like that enjoyment came from a handful of different moments here and there, all engulfed of very long and draggy segments. Oh, and lots of different product placements - probably the most invasive case of advertisements I've ever seen in a GMM series.

I don't think anything reached its true potential here.
- The main plot points of Kieta Hatsukoi worked in the Japanese drama, which consisted in 10 episodes of about 20 minutes each, but it felt very diluted in these 12 episodes of about 40 minutes each. After enjoying the first three or four episodes, I started getting impatient and frustrated while watching, and often found myself too bored to even pay attention during the important bits.
- The characters felt flat. The acting was amazing and I'm not taking it back, but it was hard to watch such good actors work with characters written so poorly. At their best they felt like caricatures, and they felt like cardboard cutouts at any other moment.
- Kongthap and Atom felt more like classmates who get along rather than potential lovers, and even their friendships with other characters didn't feel as sincere as they should have. Some scenes were heart-fluttering, but they felt like they were put there to make the relationships work, when it should be the exact opposite: the rest of the story was supposed to make the romantic moments hit the spot, but they never delivered fully for this exact reason.
- There were multiple themes for the series that could have been included and explored much better, but they weren't. Whoever wrote this didn't put any true passion into the story and didn't care to fix any continuity issues.

In theory, this series is supposed to work. The director and the main actors are the same as in My School President, which I've enjoyed A LOT, and the source material is a pretty good Japanese BL. In practice, it really looks like the production team threw these elements together (Fourth, Gemini, several MSP references, and the Kieta Hatsukoi plot points) and just expected things to work fine without putting extra work into it.
Since I don't like to make comparisons between series in my reviews, I'd rather avoid making them here, but it's truly hard not to. The main reason why I felt so frustrated is because I've watched Fourth and Gemini in My School President and Moonlight Chicken before, so I know that they can truly shine when the production team puts actual care in the quality of their work.

If this is your first Thai series, or you never watched My School President nor Moonlight Chicken, this can work as a cute, low-effort rom-com, as long as you have no high expectations for it. If that's not the case, then you're probably going to be very disappointed.

My Love Mix-Up Thailand - A Mixed Bag of Expectations

GMMTV’s adaptation of Kieta Hatsukoi—a Japanese Yaoi manga by Hinekure Wataru—is a curious endeavor. The original series, which was also adapted into a Japanese BL drama in 2021, brought a fresh and charming story to life. So, when I heard GMMTV was creating a Thai version, I’ll admit I had my reservations. The Japanese series had its quirks, and I wondered how this would translate into the world of Thai BL. As a fan of both the manga and the original show, I went in with cautious optimism.

The premise of My Love Mix-Up! Thailand remains true to its source material. We have Atom, played by Fourth Nattawat, who is a timid and somewhat clumsy high schooler with a crush on his classmate Mudmee (Pahn Pathitta). His world is turned upside down when a simple mix-up leads Kongthap (Gemini Norawit) to believe Atom has a crush on him, setting off a series of misunderstandings and comedic moments.

Right from the start, the series felt like it was missing something. There’s a certain magic in storytelling that pulls you in, makes you root for the characters, and keeps you invested. Unfortunately, My Love Mix-Up! Thailand struggled to find its footing. For a series with such a light-hearted and fun premise, it often felt like it was dragging its feet.

Fourth Nattawat’s portrayal of Atom was lackluster at best. He’s a talented actor, and I’ve seen him shine in other roles, but here it felt like he was holding back. Perhaps it was the character itself or maybe the direction, but whatever it was, it didn’t quite hit the mark. Gemini Norawit as Kongthap had moments of brilliance, particularly in scenes where his stoicism came into play, but overall, it felt like both actors were coasting rather than fully embodying their roles.

One of the biggest downfalls of the series is the excessive product placement. Now, I understand that sponsorship is a necessary evil in today’s media landscape, but there’s a fine line between subtle integration and blatant advertising. Unfortunately, My Love Mix-Up! Thailand crossed that line repeatedly. The product placements were so jarring that they often pulled me out of the story entirely. It’s a real shame because it distracted from the chemistry that could have developed between the characters.

Speaking of chemistry, Gemini and Fourth have it in spades. We’ve seen it before in Moonlight Chicken and My School President, where their interactions felt natural and heartfelt. However, in My Love Mix-Up! Thailand, that chemistry was left to languish in the background. There were a few standout moments—Kongthap and Atom bonding over their parents’ relationships, Atom sharing his dream of opening a café—but these were few and far between. The series never fully allowed their relationship to flourish, instead opting for contrived conflicts and rushed resolutions.

The romance arc, which should have been the heart of the show, felt forced and unconvincing. Atom’s crush on Mudmee is brushed aside almost immediately, leaving little room for emotional depth. The transition from friendship to romance between Atom and Kongthap lacked the gradual build-up that makes these stories compelling. By the time they became a couple, it felt more like a box had been ticked than a natural progression of their relationship.

Another issue was the pacing. The show tried to cram too much into too little time, resulting in rushed story arcs and unsatisfying conclusions. This is especially evident in Atom’s struggle with his sexuality and his eventual decision to pursue his dream of becoming a chef. Both of these storylines could have been explored in greater depth, but instead, they were wrapped up in a matter of minutes.

Now, it’s not all bad. There were some genuine moments of charm, particularly in the way the series handled the friendship between Atom and Mudmee. Their dynamic was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise uneven show. Additionally, the soundtrack was a highlight—catchy and well-suited to the tone of the series, even if it was a bit overused.

In the end, My Love Mix-Up! Thailand feels like a missed opportunity. With the talent of Gemini and Fourth at their disposal, GMMTV could have created something truly special. Instead, we’re left with a series that, while not without its merits, falls short of the standard set by other Thai BL dramas. For fans of the original manga or the Japanese series, this adaptation might be a bit of a letdown.

As much as it pains me to say it, I can’t rate this any higher than a 5 out of 10. It’s a middling effort that doesn’t quite capture the heart or humor of its source material. Here’s hoping GMMTV takes this as a learning experience and gives these talented actors the scripts they deserve in future projects.

Such a cute show

Now anything GeminiFourth I watch cause I’m so obsessed with them and they are so young and talented. When I heard that this show was coming out I was so excited cause my babies will be in it.

This was such a cute show and it was young, honest love. Just high school kids trying to navigate life, school and first love. Everything for them was firsts and they are trying to figure themselves out and who they want to be and it is just so amazing and I love the innocence of it all.

We are first introduced to Atom and we can see that he is a good person, overthinking and a little dramatic at times lol but his heart is in the right place and his always there to help his friends out even if it means helping them out with someone his starting to fall for to.

Then there is Matmi she is so cute and such a good friend, she already has a huge crush on Half and I love her character in this show it shows she is strong and dependable friend. Yes she may sometimes be dramatic like her bestie Atom but she is always there for her friends and ready to help.

Kongthap is such a smart, quiet caring person and I love that his character is just so laid and gentle. The way he treats Atom is so cute he genuinely loves and cares for his boyfriend. His a very supportive friend and kind. He too is also discovering himself so there are things he doesn’t know how to do or say but he is trying and putting the work to communicate better.

Half is just so cute and just a chill guy. Every one wants to date him of course but I live how his such a good friend to Atom and when Atom told him that he likes Kongthap he didn’t judge him but just accepted it cause that’s his friend and and it’s ok to like who you like.

Through out the show Atom and Matmi really were the stars in the show we can see that they share the same energy all that and they are so supportive to each other and they boyfriends of course. The moms in this show were so supportive and accepting. Even though this was an adaptation of the Japanese version with the same title I loved how they made it they own made it Thai showing the culture of Thai and making it there own so it was so refreshing and interesting.

Just watch this show it’s so cute and it has GeminFourth even though product placement was a lot but it was a show worth watching and it will make you feel giddy and excited 😊

I was looking forward to this series for a long time since Gemini and Fourth are my favourite BL couple, However I did find this a bit cringey from time to time and much preferred Mudmee and Half's story. However the romance between Atom and Kongthap is still manageable to watch. Mudmee and Half's story was really cute, I almost cried when Half asked Mudmee to be his girlfriend because it was so cute. I also love the friendship between Atom and Mudmee, they are always there for each other and it's really sweet.

However,I don't usually like to compare to other dramas but compared to My School President and Moonlight Chicken, this has to be last place out of the three, Their story during Moonlight Chicken was so beautiful that I think this drama really stepped back from that and they deserved a better drama. I wouldn't say this drama is bad or anything, but compared to Moonlight Chicken I think I just expected more. I almost dropped it from Episode 10, but I managed to finish it, but I was a little bit disappointed as a G4 fan.

The Chemistry is GOOOOD.

We got another adaptation of a Japanese BL into a Thai BL in My Love Mix-up and I will have to say this – THEY ARE DOING REALLY GOOD SO FAR. I mean, the Japanese BL are still GOATED but these stories being adapted for Thai media is giving us more stories about the characters instead. They are trying to put their own culture into it so that is really commendable and it worked. The story still follows the love story of Atom and Kongthap. Kongthap accidentally picked up the eraser that Atom borrowed from his crush but this supposed love triangle was all a misunderstanding. I think we can all agree that this all started as a misunderstanding but it soon led to a really good bond between Atom and Mudmee while Atom was also starting his relationship with Kongthap. So, yes, we have two main lovers in the story. We have the main love story and the supporting love story which is just as great as the main. I don’t say that often but I will say it here – the love story of Mudmee and Half is really good. Well, let us start with the main lovers of the story which are Kongthap and Atom played by Gemini and Fourth. The chemistry is intense with these two and I love that for them. I feel like I have grown a bit distant with Gemini with what he said but I found myself forgiving him in this one because he really played the character of Kongthap really well. He played the straight-laced serious kid really well and giving him nuance that would make you slowly fall in love with him. I think we also need to highlight that people like these do exist and they will need more time to ease with things so I am glad that Atom soon understood that, of course, with the help of Khao Pan. Speaking of Atom, the star of the entire show for me is Fourth as Atom. He is phenomenal and I can’t ask anything more from him. He is the star of this show from the very moment the start to end. I will have to say that what really made me so much in love with the show is his friendship with Mudmee. I know that he initially liked her but the friendship that they were able to build here is the best among all the BLs that I have watched so far. Fourth played the character with so much facial expressions that I am so impressed with his acting. The more emotional stuff might need a bit more polishing but he gave such a wonderful performance that I can forgive him here because it was really entertaining from start to finish. I like how aggressive he is after accepting that he is now in love with Kongthap but still playing this fragile counter to his character. I like it so much. He was so fun to watch. He was so charming that I feel like it is hard to resist a guy like him and the bond that he was able to build with Kongthap did not even feel forced at all. It is a slow burn kind of love story where they became more friends and they are so much lucky to have an older gay couple guiding them through this new relationship that they have. It is not easy to navigate such emotions but the help that they got is really important if you will ask me. I wish that this happens more in real life where we can be more out with ourselves so that we can be in relationships that are consensual and loving. There is something so good about Young Love that I really want to highlight and that is what they were able to capture here especially when they were deciding in which school to study in. There is something so simple yet honest on how this is what they think will be their biggest problem in the world. It is so pure. It is so sincere. It is so romantic. I actually enjoyed it. I think the same can be said with the supporting couple. Half is very handsome. I just want to add that and I think that his relationship with Mudmee had repetitive aspects to it but the portrayal is still very good that I can really forgive them. I mentioned young love earlier and this is just another perfect example of that where they are still trying to figure things out and they are still so unsure of so many things that are happening to them that I think it is very much understandable for them to be confused with how they will be doing things. I think the confusion that they had is still understandable and it is still very cute. The acting is also pretty good that it is working well. I think these young actors did an impressive job with their work that they were able to fully embody these characters well and gave us a feel-good show to watch. I am happy with this and I enjoyed watching it so much.

Overrated

I really disappointed with their acting. That is the main reason why I found the story kinda boring. First episode of the drama is kinda interesting but after you go through 3rd episode you'll easily get bored until the rest episodes. I watch this because people seems like Gemini Fourth pair so much so I give it a try, sadly they don't even have a chemistry with each other. It looks like the actors only read script without knowing how to express it.

It had its moments.

This series is not perfect. It had its moments. This can be seen with Fourth and his role as Atom. I felt that he was close to giving the same energy that Michieda Shunsuke did as Aoki in the Japanese version. Him with the two supporting characters and their scenes together actually stole the series for me, specifically with Matmi as they were so cute together. And he also did an excellent job with his coming out scene to his mom that he even made me teary-eyed. Now, in all honesty, I did not feel that Gemini was a good Kongthap when I compare him to Meguro Ren as Ida. Something...just wasn't there for me in his character.

I also felt like I was drowning with the introduction of so many supporting characters that at one point, I didn't care anymore. I just wasn't invested. The series also felt long and draggy that I actually identified two other episodes it could have ended at, and it would have still been a good series. But here we are at twelve episodes.

It was nice to get a longer storyline for Half and Matmi, because we are able to see more of them and the outcome of their relationship. I was super annoyed with the product placement, especially the contact lenses one. I don't know why; it just annoyed the heck out of me.

The music of course slaps and it was good seeing the Chinzhilla band in episode 11 from MSP. All in all, it was an okay series that unfortunately did not live up to the original Japanese version- BUT! It had its moments sprinkle here and there.
