Opposites attract

A rich actor is suddenly in a scandal and falls in love with a chef while living with him.

Entitled rich guy x normal dude trope finally defeated. Its more annoying x annoyed and the actor is arrogant but he’s still likable from the get go. The chef is kind of rude and cold which is a nice spin from the traditional trope. I also just love that these characters have depth to them and trauma.

The chef has a friend that’s a reporter that just makes the whole show even more messy. It has no flaws but this season has nothing exceptionally new, except for the defeat of one of my least favourite tropes.

(please look at my separate Season 2 review, Season 2 IS exceptionally new.)

Better than season 1

This season is a breaking up story between the two main characters. With Jiwon, a chef, having ran away from this boyfriend that’s an actor.

My only problem with season 1 is that it didn’t feel special and kind of like everything else I’ve seen. But this season being a breaking up story that feels fresh with characters finally addressing their trauma. The old characters don’t just feel like they’re inherited from season 1 and actually have character moments and the new characters are a nice addition to give the time jump and new location more weight. Honestly everything about this season is perfect. I understand and empathize heavily with these characters. Beautifully executed and a masterclass at romance!

Everything I like but it’s not love

This drama has everything. Bisexual man in a uniform that protects a small tight knit village and a protagonist that loves to lie. I love it when the protagonist keeps a secret that causes drama later and this drama has drama with cliffhangers that kept me watching again and again. I love when the lead characters hate eachother at the beginning, I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers. My only issues is that scenes are played out of order (flashbacks give important context that should’ve been there at the start) and that the run time sometimes drags (especially with the 1h30 episode).

Almost legendary

Seongjae, after the death of his father, gets enlisted in the military and he sees a strange video game-like quest that helps him improve his cooking.

What I Love
The magical interface that helps him cook is peak and it’s so much more with the dislike/like meter that people have towards him, adds some drama. The side characters are also so good and full of life, they have depth and I empathize with all of them. Kdramas are really good at having multiple plots and mystery and this is no exception. The cliffhangers are so good. I also like the wacky visions and the crazy reactions to his food, even if it’s a little much at times. My favourite episodes were where Seongjae was a fish out of water.

What I Don’t Love
The outdoor training episodes are really mediocre and it feels like a bad military cosplay. Certain scenes are not shown to the audience, did he give him the body wash? This show has awful North Korean representation and the intro uses AI which sucks.

Nitpick
At the beginning I really felt like Seongjae should’ve gay. While this story never really focuses on romance, it would’ve added depth to his character.

Gave me my first panic attack

Black and White are twins separated during their parents divorce and they have a twin thing. Black gets badly beat and White decides to take his place in the gang and disguises himself to find and get revenge on the people that beat Black.

I love a character with a secret. The plot is really strong, isn’t cliche and not that much about romance so doesn’t feel like a typical BL, romance isn’t the main focus. It’s about corruption and oppression by the upper class and government and talks about class disparity. Which makes the product placement when talking about these topics feel out of place…. Its one of the few bl that passes the bechdal test LOL. I watched 4 episodes and had a nocturnal panic attack…. 10/10

Id rather watch paint dry

This was such a hard watch… I hate this couple so much so a whole special dedicated to them is disappointing. This couple feels like a creepy age gap, Tsuge is cringy, Minato is childish and rude, together they have no development, chemistry or even any appeal. I usually skip all their scenes in the original show so watching just scenes of them is not for me.

Not perfect, just decent

So we have Hiro that’s being abused at work and his childhood friend Kai comes to live with him and says they are married. Boring premise I know but was it done well… well um no.

It’s very short with 6 episodes which isn’t enough to tell a coherent story and doesn’t actually show their relationship. Kai is anything but interesting and their love story is so dry, boring and predatory. Its predatory because it has a sexual assault scene that heals him, as someone who experienced sexual assault I immediately hated this drama. I can just tell it’s trying to be a slow burn romance and instead it comes off as boring.

The supporting cast barely gets any screentime so no one is developed, the flashbacks do nothing to improve their lacking chemistry.
Do they kiss? I can’t remember and don’t care enough.

It exists

As a remake I was excited to see how they would adapt it. But it just made me crave more from the Japanese version which is a bad thing. The longer episode lengths do nothing but add filler and boring moments instead of adapting more of the manga. I don’t recommend this if you’ve seen the Japanese version or only watch Episodes 8-12 (these actually have new story which is nice to see). I was so excited but it was disappointing with music that plays constantly and cringy sound effects every second. GeminiFourth deserve better than this show. At its core it’s still an alright show but the editing and pacing make it an awful show.

Bloated but brilliant

The premise, the twists, the relationships and the characters are brilliantly crafted. There were times I wished this series would never end. But towards the end it was evident that 20 episodes is too much for a series like this. If it had been 12 episodes it would’ve been perfect. Reused clips are common in dramas but it felt like it was wayyy too much here. It lost me when she came back into the real world and the ending felt like ‘it was all a dream… or was it?’ type endings I would write as a child

Not a lot to say

I have always loved vertical shows, especially chinese ones, it’s my guilty pleasure. So when I decided to watch all of GeminiFourth’s series I was really excited for this one since I love them both. This really is just an 18 minute ad spread across 6 youtube shorts. The plot, if you can even call it that, is so forgettable and whatever. They look great though…

My avengers endgame

Ive seen all of these actors previously in bls from GMMTV so this felt like my avengers endgame. Most realistic relationships and character interactions I’ve seen in bls. Characters have depth, no one is an antagonist. Realistic fights that aren’t just there to pad out runtime. Real tear jerker with death and rejection o’plenty. And then we have Heart and Li, definitely my favourite couple ever. Their relationship is so tender, wholesome and sweet that I find it infinitely more compelling than the main couple. GeminiFourth you got a fan here.

Sweet and Fluffy But Vanilla

Takara and Amagi get together and we follow their relationship and its difficulties

What I Didn’t Like
The plot is basically non existent and the episodes are very non serial (previous episodes don’t matter to the next. Also the first episode’s editing and pacing is all over the place it needed development at the beginning. Its also nothing crazy.

What I Loved
Its so cute genuinely so fluffy and sweet. The actors did a great job, I especially loved it when Takara got shy. But I have to praise the writing especially with Katori, all the relationships feel real.

Underdeveloped

Itou and Nishi meet on a white line on the road as they try their best to stay on it.

What I Love
I love them, they’re super cute. I also love the cinematography and how quirky this show was in Episode 1. I love it in Episode 2 when they had a long conversation it was probably the highlight of the whole show. The actors are also incredible and I’m glad we got proper kissing. I also love that this show tackles themes of internalized homophobia and interracial marriage.

What I Don’t Like
Its too short that moments appear out of the blue, they never got proper character development. Everything is too fast, it has time skips for no reason other than it doesn’t have the time. The show shows them from ages 17-40, most of the time the time skips feel unnecessary especially in the last episode.

Cute Nothing Burger

This 2 part special only really has cute moments and conversations between the couple. There’s no real plot and the other characters are barely in it (still no Anna, I wanted more of her I wanted someone he could confide in). I was hoping for them to meet each other’s parents but they also do not appear on screen. It makes me only want to have a season 2 way more.

Brilliant

Hajime, a has been actor, and Akafuji, a rising star, both get cast as main roles in a BL drama.

What I Love
I love Hajime (and he’s BI!!!) and how he has low self esteem and confidence because he’s not as popular as Akafuji. His character felt so real and he’s someone I could relate too. Akafuji’s plot twist is amazing and changes their whole dynamic, I usually hate characters like him (i.e. my beautiful man) and a show in a show (i.e wonder man) but I became in love with him and the setup lead to a great romance. This show doesn’t have the typical tropes and the characters feel real. I love the fujo producers, I love the idol character, I JUST LOVEEEEE THESE CHARACTERS!!!

Nitpick
Yes there’s nothing I hate in this show. But the comedy didn’t make me laugh, I’m glad it’s here, some might find it cringy but I’m desensitized.
