You Could Hate It Or Like It

This is a drama that you will either hate or like. I would say that the first 11 episode were terrible. I was also ready to give it up. The lead actress is young and the director should have help her with her performance. Her fighting skill should have been better, they look fake. The obsession's with the senior was a turn off. The obsess female vice president was a turn off. they both were made to be strong and independent women but the characters action and charisma turn us off. When I watch the 12 episode and the chemistry between the leads began the drama started to be much better. I really liked the 2nd couple. They were cute how they met and started a relationship. I was happy to see the senior character step away from the leading female character so she could start understanding of the lead male character. From episode 12 on the chemistry between the leads become stronger, and more likeable the couple became. Then the drama became to unravel and all the other characters had much better chemistry with each other. This story is a typical C-drama story were the girl hates the boy at first and then she likes him later. The writer throws in some characters that sometimes weakens the story. I have to say that tis drama is not so bad. After seeing over 700 drama I have seen worse. The male actors Liu Te does keep the story alive, and also many off the experience actors in this drama. They give their character credibility. The female lead is young and by the end her acting is better. The ending was cute.

This was really a cute storyline, I enjoyed it. I needed to smile and this made me smile all the way to the last episode. Liu Te playing Gu Rong Yan is cute and being a new actor, I thought he did very well. LT is very tall at 6.2. As he also towered over Ling Mei Shi who played Su Jing Jing. I loved the strong character she played. The storyline I loved. It was different than other storylines. I love everything Liu Te wore, he looks good in leather. The one outfit that Ling Me Shi wore, the all-black bodyguard outfit, and those boots oh my goodness, those boots were the best thing I have seen in boots in a long time.

Usually, in dramas, I view similar storylines but different actors/actresses with different scenes. This a drama that a family can watch together. A lot of writers are stuck in history with rich versus lowly (poor or middle-class) people. You will love the ending.

Tittle should be: How I took a poor female martial artist as a slave.

It is starting as a typical Chinese Romantic Drama; Rich, arrogant, I can get anything man(Liu) ordering what is right now strong minded girl(Su) around. She is suppose to be his body guard not a servant. The parents look like they would sell their daughter to the highest bidder for money. I bet anything before this series is over. Ling becomes weak minded, can't do anything girl, who falls for rich guy, who changes and say sorry. Anyone wanna bet? Liu looks pale and sick with all that white wash makeup on.

I am sorry to say this, but Liu needs his butt whipped. As usually he can do anything he wants, to anyone he wants and nothing will happen to him. Ling could beat him up obviously and she should. Will she ever stick up for herself? Su should kick his butt and tell him to get lost.

I dislike her parents. They have no morals. They allow their daughter to be abused in the name of money. In Ep 9 you'll see that they are nothing about money. They can careless about their daughter. It makes the Chinese family unit look bad. Liu is always hold the debt over her head. I guess that is love?.

7 episodes in and this is getting more and more predictable. Rich arrogant, demeaning male changes falls for poor simple minded, low esteem girl. He says sorry and they get married. The good guy who treats her like a queen get left out. Let's see how right I am.

The romance between supporting cast was a better part of this story. They both were equal and treated each other that way.

I was right: money talks ... Bullcrap walks.. In this case all the way to the alter. She sold herself for a debt. In some places it's called prostitution. The Writers/Producers can't tell me that if she had never broke that statue, she would of ended up with Liu. There is no chemistry between ML and FL. The Producers are forcing the audience to accept that they are in Love. NO person in their right mind would fall in love with their overseer. Why does Su talk like a little girl during the whole series?

Teenagers will like this series because it has a cute boy and girl in it. They will mistake a Rich demeaning, arrogant, abusive, can do anything to girls and a low esteemed, mumbling, weak minded poor female as a Romantic drama.

I was right! There should a part 2 to this. Cute Bodyguard was so bad, Cute Bodyguard 2 got to be better. I suffered enough. This was a stupid series. It had nothing to do with being a bodyguard and everything to do with a rich arrogant boy getting his way. No-one was willing to stand up to him. Su was relegated to being a low esteem, mumbling, always talking like a little girl person.

A packaged deal for Fotile kitchen equipment, standardized cooking included.

No superpower heroine. Story is basically another variation on Cinderella, poor girl/rich prince who needs to take over as king of the business - she, JingJing (played by Ling Meishi), is a shy designer trained girl who did not get a job in her specialty, has bad luck and low IQ but a pretty face.
He, Gu Rong (LiuTe) is supposedly well educated abroad, but looks as diffident as if he was kept under a glass globe at home from which he wanted to escape but became overwhelmed by the outside world. Because he would prefer to be an artist but has no real talent, although he does have haphephobia, so the triangle eyed girl that was his intended is likely not going to get the old king (granddad) the 5 grandkids he wishes for (umm, I know the one child policy has been abolished and 2 or 3 kids are encouraged to help with the aging gap, but 5? That was the standard in Mao times and granted it is a "lucky number". But again, all this for that while the Congress closes and gender equality is promoted in words but not in deed at the highest level, according to news reports).

A quaint old village is showcasing outdated ways of living in a big city. Neighbors want to make more money but are clueless in front of Internet and new ways of selling their stuff. Not that they are from the countryside: they are encrusted and fossilized in their picturesque ways., waiting like the Sleeping Beauty to have someone wake them up and show them something else, cautiously. Of course, that's where the bulk of the story takes place, in an old (well, only 10 year old so rather not ancient) martial arts school. The rest takes place in shopping malls (spend, spend, spend!), a company and a minimalist model apartment for yuppies, plus the bedroom of the old patriarch in his mansion guarded by same lone guard who must be a scarecrow like statue. Mansion has a garden which will prove convenient for a kiss.

Lots of fluff and luosifen, some demo of haoyue dragon halberd by Su JingJing's dad, and sword demo of taijijian moves, except the FL, if she needs to be a master at kungfu fighting to impress a foreigner investor, also has to be afraid of a few traces of blood to the point of fainting. She cannot balance on high heels except if it's combat boots, and is a weak drinker of alcohol. We get "tricks" to attract the stray bird : false fever twice, spoon-feeding, piggyback carrying and everything in the romcom catalogue.

Although it's only 24 episodes and there's a villain who sells secrets, there are no surprises, we suspected from the start who and what had been cooking, so I can understand those who get annoyed.
There's little "chemistry": the couple looks most of the time like clueless children playing at "dad and mom", dressing up as newlyweds to be so conspicuous that they won't be noticed ("Look, I close my eyes and you can't see me", like 3 years old do,, lol!) making food and clay clownish figures, needing models for behavior and reassurance and boundaries.

This drama is to be consumed with and like a pack of Doritos or a box of licorice candies (with little to no licorice, replaced by anise oil) : no real food value, "mildly harmful to health" waste of time, Yet, I watched till the end, slightly surprised that the end came earlier than announced ; but surely this was a "filler" forgettable drama to pave the way before more interesting and long awaited c-dramas.

Lots of use of, demonstrating, advertising for Fotile top kitchen appliances. Some for motorcycling instead of Rolls Royce cars that are comfortable but have a risk of getting flat tires (!) Maybe that was the real point? Advertising some brands ?
My take : it is not really awful, so I don't hate it. I had some time to kill before serious teeth cleaning, so therefore used it viciously to binge on a big dose of saccharine before a restful sleep to face real life pain and bloodshed next. I was watching Love in Time/secret roommate too, so that was food enough for thoughts and speculation about the value of escaping 2022 to get back to 2021.

Not so cute bodyguard and more like slave to employer trope...

For those of you who think this is like "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" or "I Am Not a Robot", you're in for a rude awakening. It's nothing like these shows.

The FL just basically knows martial arts but so far, it doesn't seem like she has any "special" powers, and the ML has haphephobia, which is basically a strong dislike of people touching him. However, he doesn't suffer from any social anxiety disorders like being in large crowds or anything.

There are only two ways this drama goes... FL is either a slave to ML or a pathetic friend-zoned, "I have a crush" on the SML. The ML treats her like crap and the SML treats her worse than a younger sister. He's supposed to be her "senior" and is oblivious that FL likes him. Like, she just isn't so obvious.

The FL acts either sulky or kissass-y or pleads and cries like a 2-year-old. When she has fighting scenes, they give off the vibes like, "Oh okay, no biggie. So you know martial arts." You're not blown away by her fighting prowess. It's almost childish when they have scenes where they're being chased. Sometimes I wonder how interesting the floor must look to the FL because every time she has to explain herself, or gets berated or scolded, she talks with her head down. Bejezus... hold your head up and have some dignity!

The ML is so annoying. He makes the FL sign a contract as his "bodyguard" when really her main role is his slave. All he does is bosses her around... "Bring me this, bring me that, do my laundry and feed me food." If that's not enough, he holds her debt over her head whenever she even slightly rebels. Then he goes even further to sabotage and plays the third wheel on all the outings FL goes on with the SML. He has a blatant dislike towards the SML just because it's a one-sided love for the FL. Like seriously, you have no idea why the ML would care that the FL likes the SML since he himself treats the FL like crap, crap, and more crap. He even treats his assistant/driver like crap because apparently the ML can't think for himself. He expects his driver to come up with all the dating and courting ideas to make the FL fall in love with him.

WTF is this? Are we just supposed to enjoy this kind of BS as women viewers? And how many times are they going to have the FL and ML repeatedly bump in and be so close to each other just to slo-mo and play an OST in the background for like 10 lonnngggg slo-mo s....e...c...o...n...d...s...?

So far I'm watching this as it plays in the background while I do other things and the ML is still being the self-entitled jerk who is still going on sabotaging all the FL attempts to confess to the SML. Later on, we have to listen to the FL dumb herself down even more to the SML since she doesn't understand "literature" and apparently it only takes one day for her to get "over" the SML and all of a sudden they're back to being "siblings". Whatevs.

Later, we have to watch the second couple which includes the ML's male driver/assistant and the FL's best friend. The best friend's accepts a confession from the driver which actually wasn't meant for her and then even after finding out, she basically forces the guy to admit that he does have feelings for her. Later, when the ML's confession goes awry, the best friend thinks all the plans were made for her and now we have both women are acting so dumb and clueless even though there are subtle hints that everything is pointing to the FL. So now we have two dumb women. The SFL just being an already bossy gf in a brand new relationship and making assumptions as if the world evolves around her.

Sigh... I might update this later if I can soldier through more episodes.

Update:
I managed through Ep11 and I was done. I feel like this was aimed for a younger audience of 15 year olds. All the characters written poorly and the acting isn't that great either. The FL's parents really started to grate on my nerves. The drunk scenes were rubbish and the FL's character went downhill. Not only was she immature and childish but had no class whatsoever. Overall, the writing, acting and production was very poor.

At the first part of my review I was around EP7 and my rating was 5, I've lowered it a 2.

Don't waste your time on this one... I already did it for you. Major fail.

If it can make you smile like a fool, It is a good drama

I didn’t expect this drama to be as good as it was. It's a definite cliche in the sense that it has all the CEO tropes you could ask for. But I've observed that tropey dramas these days are not as frustrating as they used to be. The drama is your typical hate to love CEO drama with a not so good “Strong woman” twist. (I would like to point out that her strength isn’t supernatural, she’s just stronger than your average person because of her kung fu background). The drama is cute, funny, and sweet. It is also fast paced and easy to follow. Conflicts are resolved easily, there are no breakups and it has a perfect and satisfying happy ending. I didn’t want the drama to end.

All the side characters were cute. Her parents were honestly the best C drama parents I’ve ever encountered. His grandfather was so nice, and the office workers were cute. This drama also has the best Second Couple in the history of C drama second CPs. The couples were literally gummy bears and marshmallows for me. No awkwardness and their chemistry were impeccable. I wished they had made Bai An Rou less evil and given her a chance with Han Ran, but their situation was still okay. The plot was nothing new, but as I always say, if it can make you smile like a fool, squeal like a smitten child, and give you butterflies, it is a good drama.

Cute actors and a UNCUTE one

Cute and light story. The cute couple super love each other. Most of the casts are loveable except for the female antagonist. She is the most annoying, not because of her good acting but because of her overly done face. Not looking a natural person anymore. Doesn’t even deserve the equally good looking second lead. The rest of the cast are great… cool FL’s parents, cool grandpa and sidekicks. I haven’t finished it and I look forward to how the witch ends up. Can’t find more words to complete at least 500 words though.

Pleasant and happy ending

Finally after somany days a Chinese drama with no second lead syndrome,no triangle love story,no misunderstandings no break up, and finally no serious story it goes with flow, and a perfect happy ending with marriage, what more can we ask, just happy to watch it in a go,story is simple, there are many similiar dramas with same rich ml and poor fl falling in love, but this drama doesn't have any complications like breakup patchup and so called third party interruptions in relationship, fl is cute and her acting is awesome and coming to ml ,his performance is same as his last drama, feel free at Mr ling, i loved everything about this.

Dropped it but came back after a few months

Okay, I've watched this series up until episode 14, Oh my gosh it was so boring so I decided to drop it. After a few months, I kept on seeing interesting clips of this series on Youtube and 1 comment that said it gets better after episode 12 or 13 so I decided to come back and try to finish it. I am on episode 16 now and it's still not getting any better. Anyway the male lead is what keeps me going, without him I would have dropped it again. What's up with the female lead so tiny but super strong. She can fight about 10 men at once without even getting tired. And the granddad that forces his grandson to take over the business the grandson that keeps running away, I mean can't they communicated.

For those who love sweet and cute dramas

This is a light, sweet and fluffy drama without too many complications. It wasn't something I fell in love with, but overall it was good, it wasn't something I dragged around to watch either.

The story is light, after the protagonists are together they do not separate anymore, nor do they have major conflicts with each other. They grow together and establish a relationship of trust and companionship.

The ending was a sweet, traditional wedding. This is the first modern cdrama I've watched that they have a traditional wedding, and it's very beautiful, I prefer it. The wedding night scene was a little rough and ended there, but still it was all right.

Note: they never changed shoes when they entered the house, this is strange to see in a cdrama.
