Nice everyday life drama

I am one of those who was disappointed when it got cancelled after airing 4 episodes. But was very happy when gagaoolala picked it up and completed.
All the 4 MLs have done a good job in expressing their emotions.

Story: Though a regular story, it has a nice watch value. The start as strangers, becoming friends, then heading to being lovers. The confusion when you find someone who looks like passed away brother, how its overcome. A great touch is showing the life of deaf.

Acting: QL did a great job in not giving up getting what he likes, who he loves although started with a not so good intention. QX- the confusion, the jealousy when he realized he actually like QL was cute and typical😂 TY- The sadness, desperation when he could not communicate and knew LMY only likes him as a brother. LMY- The big confusion, withholding around TY. The comedic part of Turtle as supporting actor was really nice. I would rewatch it again😍

Was it Art or Love?

The finale showed some really lazy writing. A massive let down for a series that showed great promise. The first four episodes were titillating, then it started showing cracks.

The visuals were amazing, the male leads were great but I struggled a bit with the chemistry, because it felt a little forced. They had moments when I thought they're steaming hot then they turned into brothers again.

The second couple had zero chemistry and we didn't really get to find out what they liked about each other. It was smart of them to assign the role of brother to the other blonde. Otherwise, it would have gotten really complicated.

It was refreshing to see a BL come out of China. We appreciate the warrior spirit that fought for its return. The setting was different, the casting solid. Overall a sweet love story for us to enjoy. Recommended for the slow moments in the calendar when nothing else is going on to binge and enjoy.

Such a beautiful series!! A little bit of a rushed ending, but so worth the watch!

I can't get over how beautiful the story in this series was! It was definitely a roller coaster of emotions, and very painful at times, but it was so beautiful!
The progression of Qi Lu and Qin Xiao's relationship in the series from beginning to end was just perfect! Seeing it go from clearly liking each other but not admitting it, to Qi Lu admitting his feelings, Qin Xiao then denying his feelings, to him finally giving in, was just so beautiful to watch!
Same with Liu and Tan Yi. While I didn't love their story as much, their relationship progression was just as great to watch. Tan Yi pining for Liu, Liu drunkenly admitting his feelings while Tan Yi couldn't hear, to him then denying his feelings before finally giving in.. so perfect!
Honestly, almost everything about this series was so perfect to me! It had the perfect blend of pain before happiness, rejection then acceptance, and two people who felt trapped before finding each other and finally breaking free.
The ending was definitely more rushed than I'd have liked, but with how amazing I personally found the rest of the series, I didn't mind. I am just happy that we got a happy ending for both couples!!
One thing I did hate was Qi Lu's father.. I wanted so much more to happen to him for the abuse he was doing to Qi Lu. He is a disgusting piece of shit human being who doesn't deserve to breathe air so I hate that in the series nothing ever happens to him. He's even an influential person in the art world, and yet he doesn't even get that taken from him.. The one time Qi Lu actually stood up to him, he threatened Qin Xiao again to get him back under control 🙄 I'm really glad at the end of the series he was able to get away from him, and that even though he had to do what his father wanted because of the threatening, he only had to do it for a year and it was a year away from him!
I also am not a huge fan of miscommunication, or non-communication in this case. It drives me crazy when, if people would just talk to and be honest with each other, things may not have happened the way they did. If they had been honest with each other, when Qin Xiao hurt his hand and realized he couldn't take the exam to get into university, he would have known Qi Lu was being forced by his dad not going with his mom so he wouldn't have had to hide it. The only thing I'll say in that regard, is the dad could have threatened him again when Qin Xiao tried again to get into university.. I could see that happening, but it didn't ease my irritation with the non-communication causing a 6-year separation. I know that was needed for the angst and drama of the series, but miscommunication/non-communication is a trope many series tend to fall back on and I just really dislike it.
Regardless of that though, I thought this was a beautiful series! I'm so happy that both couples got happy endings with each other! I just really adored this and it's probably one of my top series from this year!

Sorry, but how come no one is talking about the series Blue Canvas of Youthful Days?

Blue Canvas of Youthful Days (The Blue of Youth, 过我年少时光的蓝色) was released this year, 2024, in October, by iQIYi, and it's a Taiwanese BL (boy love) drama.

This series is very special. It explores a difficult time in every young person's life when everything feels more confusing, intense, and every decision seems life-or-death. The dilemmas, the challenges of each character, and the LGBTQ+ theme are treated with incredible sensitivity during the episodes, bringing strong emotions at times, but also that famous smile you don't even realize you're making when watching such a series.

Synopsis: Coming from a family of artists, Qi Lu was forced to learn painting from a young age under his father's strict control. In his final year of high school, he ends up studying at a painting studio where he meets Qin Xiao, a talented young painter he had already admired online. However, Qin Xiao is struggling financially and taking care of his ailing grandfather. Qi Lu decides to get closer to Qin Xiao in hopes of becoming friends. Although it's hard at first, they gradually break the ice, and their bond intensifies, turning into something deeper.

Aesthetics: One of the highlights of this drama is its aesthetics. The colors, tones, and camera work create a modern, clean look while also being rich in symbolism and emotions. The visuals flood your senses with colors when necessary, but also clear up when it's crucial to transmit some feelings.

PWD character: Besides the main story, Blue Canvas of Youthful Days introduces a deaf character, Tan Yin-yes, in the early episodes, they communicate only through sign language! I might be new on the world of Chinese/Taiwanese dramas, but I hadn't seen PWD (persons with disabilities) representation in a plot or cast before. I was so happy about this! If you have recommendations, please share!

LGBTQ+: Additionally, Tan Yin, played by Xiao Zi Zhuo, was sent by his parents to a hospital for "gay conversion therapy." He managed to escape but is so traumatized he can barely set foot in a regular hospital to check his hearing. So many current topics are explored in the series! In a country like China, where h0m0sexuality has not been a crime since 1997, societal prejudice still persists, a theme the series work deeply in the family dynamics.

Parental/\buse: Another heavy topic addressed in the series is parental /\buse. WOW, the scenes involving Qi Lu's character and his father are tough to watch. You can almost feel the pain and fear in actor Guo Jia Le's eyes.

Performances: I found all the performances brilliant, especially the main duo, Guo Jia Le as Qi Lu and Zhang Xuan Yu as Qin Xiao. I can't recall if it was in episode 11, but Qin Xiao goes through a very tough moment, and the actor absolutely nailed the scene. According to MyDramaList, this is the first major work for most of the cast, and I see a very bright future for them. The comedic relief of Wei Jia Yu, played by Hu Ze Ming, is really welcoming.

In summary, it's no wonder Blue Canvas of Youthful Days has a score of 8.1 on MyDramaList, 9/10 on Viki, and 7.8 on IMDb. Alongside dealing with highly relevant and current topics, the performances touch our deepest emotions-fear, disillusionment, guilt, pain, but also hope and, above all, love.

"You know what is my wish for the future? I must do what I like, and love the one I love". - Qi Lu

Super recomendo!
