UNDESERVED FORGIVENESS
Production and directing are good. Acting is fine overall (and I love both leads as actors), but the FL did an exceptional job with her show of emotion and being a fierce mother. The storyline is 95% abuse, so the ChineseMov.com and MDL titles are completely inaccurate! 😐Unless there was massive repentance (there wasn’t), the ONLY acceptable ending to this drama was for the FL to escape with her child away from the ML and for him to be left wallowing in truth and despair. His and his mother’s and fiancé’s actions were too heinous for forgiveness. I was especially disgusted with how the mom was easily forgiven at the end. Who cares that she was deceived, her behavior is inexcusable. She tried to gut the little boy with a knife to find the ham that she thought he ate, she threw his birthday cake and tossed his hospital room, she said his life was worthless and wanted to exchange it for her dead rabbit. NONE of that is forgivable, EVEN if the kid WERE cursed (which he’s not). The ML was only a smidge less bad, but he was still a HORRENDOUS person. He was verbally abusive, always grabbing the FL’s neck and shoving her, and backhanded her once. He repeatedly called his son a bastard/spawn and the FL a slut/whore. He kicked them out of their home, forced her to be a maid and to serve him in bed (it didn’t happen), and constantly harassed her. His actions aren’t forgivable without at least MAJOR time spent on repentance. He did donate his bone marrow in secret, almost died from a stabbing while saving the FL and he apologized when he woke up from his coma, but it still wasn’t enough to absolve his past cruelty. The leads’ reconciliation at the end was unrealistically fast and undeserved, so their happy ending feels cringey instead of restorative. It seemed wrong when the ML was holding his son, spinning around joyfully, and their family laughing together when there had been no proper penance (at least shown). There should have at least been a scene showing the ML apologizing and crying to his little boy for all the awful things he said and for how he treated them. The ending was not written properly, AT ALL.
