Most of the basic exposition is in place and as far as the romance storyline, we are set with the basic conflict as follows: Shen Xi He is (understandably) emotionally guarded to the extreme due to her traumatic experiences. In her past life she watched her family get caught up in evil palace politics to the point where even though she sacrificed herself to loveless forced marriage to the psycho 5th Prince, still watched them all get slaughtered and then only managed to get revenge on the Fan family (but not her husband) by committing suicide. And then she came back to life in the body of a girl, Shen Xi Hi, who had just been murdered! So she is understandably very reserved and cautious and has sworn off getting remotely close to fooled by love or married to someone who could do to her family what 5th Prince did. Fine. So this is the wall that the already love-struck Xiao Hua Yong has to overcome. So what has to happen is Xi He has to eventually heal enough from her trauma to be able to open up emotionally again. We still have 21 episodes to go so I think it may take a while. Oh, and we need a cure for Hua Yong's poison while we are at it. That also probably won't happen right away.

It was nice to see them finally work together. Their minds are a perfect match and their other skills just complement their tandem. They should continue to stay as crime-solving partners from now on. And then maybe even cancel the cancellation of their engagement. 😏Cui and Lin were a blast to watch as always. Every episode I am waiting for a scene or two with them. 🥰 The way how Cui now looks at Lin always makes me smile, but I am a little sad that she distances herself from him because of that. I wonder what the reason is, and the only real conclusion I can make so far is because she's supposed to be a man. 🤷♀️😔But other than that, I would like to see where this trail with the Hu merchant will lead and who is the person the Duke of Ying answers to, because I am quite certain there's someone above him. Such an ill man wouldn't need those mines to forge weapons for himself, I reckon. And considering the Duke of Xie was hiding him, then he too might be involved in this conspiracy. 🤔I like Physician Xie and I saw how touched he was about HuaYong requesting the Emperor to give his dead mother such an honourable title and the Emperor granting it. 🥹🫂

The Princess has kept her stance very clear that she considers their engagement broken but the Crown Prince keeps his image in her peripheral as she brings crimes to light. BuShu Lin was rescued and there was a clean sweep of the mine and forge. The citizens were released and compensated for their forced servitude. The Crown Prince upped that with a memorial stating the compensation that would be given at that site for any missed. It was agreed by them both that the official in jail was acting too calmly considering the punishment for his family. With further investigation he was found to be a fake. His tune changed when his real family was put on the line. As the Princess continued to tie up things in the courtroom, the Crown Prince found the secret passage where the doctor was being held. When the Crown Prince entered, there was an immediate hostage situation. Duke Ying was keeping the doctor there whether real or under pretense. It did show poison indicator on needle but there was no clear explanation of what was really going on. The Duke planned on exiting with the doctor and having the Crown Prince imprisoned or killed there. That circumstance changed quite quickly when the Crown Prince used sword skills to get it to the Duke and the doctor. It was argued in court that he simply wanted time with his son who refused to accept his remarriage. He was disciplined for deceiving the Emperor and all accepted the ruling. This too was stepped up a notch when the Crown Prince requested the doctor’s mother receive the rank and holdings of a first rank lady and recognized her service and contributions to the household and community. Here the doctor was stunned and had to be reminded to thank the Emperor show for this remembrance. The Princess is seeing that he is keeping his word about their similar goals. She is far from convinced but she is paying attention. Looks like her father shows up next episode and far from pleased at her choice of husbands. 😂What is interesting is that the actor playing her father is also the adoptive parent of JiaYu in Key to the Phoenix Heart. Now I have to wonder if he will be the same smug dark character here as he is there. 🧐He also was the poet in Prisoner of Beauty that made Wei Shao jealous and steal an ancient artifact .😂
