K-Drama Hype vs. Reality: A Mid-Level Watch

Here’s my two cents on this drama. It’s still ongoing, but wow, I had no idea how K Industries’ PR works. So many new accounts appeared just to give 10/10 ratings right after the release—some even created their MDL accounts on Jan 17 or 18. Whatever it is, the drama itself isn’t anything extraordinary. The FL tries hard to channel Kang Bitna, but her acting is just… mid and it feels like a torture to see her overacting. The other cast is good, but sometimes it feels like they forgot how to act.
I definitely wouldn't recommend spending time on this. The trailer was good, and I thought it could be another quality romcom, but for me, the main issue is the overacting. It felt like they were trying too hard to be funny and silly, which prevented it from feeling natural.
Also, as a foreigner, it was cringe to see how the main character orders everyone around on the English team-telling them what to eat, how to train, and how to approach each game. I thought that is what managers are for. He is portrayed as a "superman" among the rest of the mediocre and not-very-smart players.
I realize this comment might be unpopular since I'm not doing the show any favors, but I hope I can save someone time by suggesting they skip it if they are looking for a quality show.

Review: No Tail to Tell (Episodes 1-2) A Sassy Start With Heart on the Horizon

If there's one takeaway from the first two episodes, it’s this: Kim Hye-yoon is a comedic force of nature. As a defiant, MZ gumiho, her character veers away from the traditional "mystical predator" trope to something far more refreshing and chaotic.

In the first two episodes, she carries the show with a nice blend of sassiness and quirkiness. I find her gumiho portrayal a breath of fresh air and somewhat relatable especially when she's using her powers to navigate small inconveniences, her "IDGAF" energy is hilarious!

• Her comedic timing is sharp, making her character’s arrogance feel more like a charming personality flaw than a villainous trait.
• Her character seems perfectly content being a bit of a menace, which makes for some of the funniest sequences in the drama so far.

Expectations:
While the first two episodes are heavy on the laughs, I really feel that Kim Hyeyoon is just getting started. She has a unique ability to peel back the layers of even the most abrasive characters to reveal a vulnerable core (think Kang Yeseo of Sky Castle).

Right now, we are enjoying the firecracker personality, but I believe (or am hoping) the seeds of a deeper story are being planted. I’m fully expecting that as the series progresses, Hyeyoon will inevitably bridge the gap between her character’s prickly exterior and the viewer’s heart. Her "flaws"—the selfishness, the defiance, the ego—will likely become the very things that make her eventual growth so moving.

In conclusion, the first two episodes are a high-energy introduction that proves Hyeyoon can lead a rom-com with her eyes closed. However, I am really excited for that moment she makes us cry just as hard as she’s currently making us laugh.

Note: It seems most of the mixed reviews/criticisms are currently geared towards the CGI and directing but I honestly am not that bothered by it so far so I have no comments on those aspects.

Fun show which only gets better!

I will say that the flow of the story could have been better in episode 1. They show the background story and present day but it could have been done better. Having said that, the story is fun and Hye Yoon is brilliant. She’s funny but also sarcastic. Lomon is also great. I can’t wait to see the chaos that these 2 bring😂. People are complaining about chemistry, but you do realize that it’s only the beginning and the romance in the story will soon evolve. Lomon and Hye Yoon are great together and looking forward to more episodes.

Love and sacrifice

Not totally the ending I expected, but it was still a happy one. Otherwise, I actually enjoyed the serie; got me waiting week after week for the next episode. Love and sacrifice were intertwined together, and I loved how the story showed how every decision has a consequence, but also how one can truly live with tough decisions and consequences when it's done because of something greater than our fears, such as love.

A Heartfelt Fantasy About Choices, Consequences, Love And True Self.

How should I put this, this series is one of its kind. On paper it looked like a cliche story but in delivery it stands complete on its own, This story need attention and time not quick jumps- and that's what makes it special.

Lets start:
The story follows Eunho, a 900-year-old gumiho, who refuses to become human and stays true to her choice until the very end. At its heart, the series is about living life on your own terms, owning your choices, and facing the consequences — no regrets.

The plot is structurally-written. There are no loose ends, and unnecessary plots, every character gets a satisfying conclusion. Every scene connects seamlessly, so the audience isn’t left questioning “what just happened?” It’s neatly packed. The direction is good too, though there are a few sudden cuts here and there — noticeable, but not enough to ruin the experience.

Acting & Chemistry:

Kim Hye Yoon as Eunho is an absolute delight. Portraying a 900-year-old gumiho, she adopts an older, more structured tone and speech — and she nails it. Her comic timing has always been strong, and it lands perfectly here as well. Her sly, foxy attitude and bratty charm are a joy to watch, and that heartbreaking outburst in ep 11 and that beautiful, strong silent emotional delivery in ep 12, IYKYK are just Chef’s kiss 💯😍.

Lomon shines as Kang Siyeol, taking on a sensitive and delicate character for the first time. He delivers a nuanced and convincing performance, showing real promise as a young actor.🫶

Even though this isn’t your typical romance drama, the chemistry between the leads feels like a perfectly layered cake — consistently engaging without ever feeling forced. With each episode, you keep wanting more of “them.” The rest of the cast also delivers strong performances, and the OST complements the mood beautifully, even if it isn’t particularly groundbreaking.

Verdict:
If you enjoy reflective, emotional fantasy with light romance and comedy, I completely recommend this but if you’re chasing high-stakes, steamy romance, out of the box oscar level story telling look elsewhere.

The review ends here.

But this is something I personally wanted to address.

I came across a Reddit comment claiming Eunho didn’t learn anything by the end because she chose to remain a gumiho — I strongly disagree.

Some people missed the core point of this series. In episode 12, Eunho recalls her unnie’s words and admits that living life her own way, owning her choices, is exactly how life should be. That’s the real narration — not just for her, but for all of us watching.

This drama is about making your own choices and facing the consequences. Every character — Eunho, Siyeol, Woo Seok, Lee Yoon, Jang Do Cheol, and Gumho — navigates their own decisions and outcomes.

Eunho chooses both kang Si yeol (her love) and her life as a gumiho at the end, and Kang Siyeol chooses Eunho too. Both of them know the consequences of their choices, yet they make them anyway — because they’re trying to stay true to themselves and to each other. They love themselves and each other in every form and shape, leaving the rest to life to play out as it will.

By the end, it’s clear what Eunho learned — and what we, as the audience, can take away too:
If you don’t stay true to your core identity, no amount of convincing yourself you’re happy will truly work. But if you choose to be true to yourself first, and then love others from that place, the relationships will bloom. True love starts from within.

Starts out bad, but it does get better ...

I went into this series hoping for a good foxtail story. My all time favorite drama is Tale Of The Nine Tailed with Lee Dong Wook, so I was a little disappointed after the first two episodes. The character Eun Ho was not likable at all, putting a major damper on the story line.
However, if you give the series a chance, it does improve as you get into the third and forth episodes. The story becomes a bit more in depth and the main protagonists finally begin to jell together. Lomon gives a good performance, adding a good chemistry with Hye Yoon ... but like I said, you need to give it time for this to happen. By episode 5 the series had me, and it was extremely enjoyable from that point on.
The only major negative I have, is what I hate in any of these dramas ... when you get to the final episode and you see "Three years later, Five years later, Nine years later" It never seems to click with me. So much time has passed, yet everyone looks the same, everyone has the same feel like it was an hour earlier instead of a decade later. That said, it was a good ending. Could it have been better? Yes, absolutely, but overall, it was enjoyable.

FEMALE GUMIHO AS A MAIN CHARACTER!!!!

Finally we got a female gumiho and the actress' work is insane usually. The character was built a bit cringily and annoyingly, but in the end I personally grew to like her character. The plot was a bit messy but I turned a blind eye to it and enjoyed it with an ease. Also the other characters were quite good, the other female eight tailed fox was so cute I could've died:D

A fox learning how to be human

This was such a fun watch!!!!
Kim Hye-yoon brings so much personality to Eun-ho, making her both mischievous and vulnerable, while Lomon adds charm and emotional warmth to Si-yeol. I loved the balance between fantasy and everyday life, watching an immortal being slowly understand human feelings, love, and loneliness. It’s not a perfect drama, but it’s entertaining, light, and full of cute moments that made the whole journey enjoyable.

This drama is exceptionally good, the kind that keeps you hooked and makes you impatient for the next episode. Every scene feels meaningful and the story pulls you in right away. The actors’ performances are excellent, and the chemistry between the female and male leads is already undeniable even with very few shared moments, you can clearly feel the spark between them. I’m really looking forward to seeing the hate-to-love trope unfold and how their relationship will gradually change. Every episode of this drama leaves you wanting more, even though there are only two episodes so far and the storytelling keeps you emotionally invested from start to finish. I truly hope more people give this masterpiece a chance because it is absolutely worth watching.

Indeed interesting

UPDATED:
I am here updating my review after episode 4. Am I still hooked, yes definitely! Begging for SBS/Netflix to release all episodes now please! Such torturous wait 😂 The storyline/plot is getting extremely interesting.
This drama is NOT for viewers who expects typical romcom, fantasy, straightforward , predictable storyline, if that's you, please do not watch this drama. There are a lot of plot twist, unpredictable, surprises which make it entertaining and interesting.

Initial review:
Watched episode 1..and hooked from the first second (including the intro.....LOL).
It contains interesting plot and the gumiho behaves like the world revolves around her....and what is she with $$$ ! 😂
Kim Hye Yoon again convinced me of her execution of the role. Lomon and the other casts, are superb, especially the guy whom played the villain.
I am eagerly waiting for episode 2 !

Lead actors - good job! Cultural zingers!

The lead actors did a good job. FL in portraying and impatient uninformed and entitled character. ML portrayed as patient, caring, tolerant, naively confused and slightly amused by the FL’s tantrums. It was amusing when the ML explains that she is from abroad hence … impolite. A zinger about western behavior?
The narrative was trite. I fast forwarded the ghoulish parts after grasping the plot direction. Also fast forwarded the hysterical over acting coach parts. It got very philosophical at the end which pleased me. The ending turned out to be predictable and last scene toooo staged!

This series about male athletes and a male soccer team must have given the casting director a field day. Would this story be of interest if the soccer team had been women? I would enjoy that turn around.
