CRAZY SHAMANISM AND CURSE STORY!

The setup is simple i.e. a school. What started with two girl school students and their trauma, passed on to the other school students through this app, called GIRIGO. Five friends and their wishes to save others and themselves.

Crazy plot and storyline. Loved the acting, like kdramas never fail me in thriller and horror genres. There is always a mystery lingering in the background about the origin of this curse and how this current group of school students will escape it. One of our school students' aunt is a Shaman, I personally loved her character and her husband's. Watching them on the screen was always a relief.

It is a good school horror, intelligently written, having good jumpscares and driving you to the edge of your seat! I loved that scene where the shaman aunt brought Se-ah spirit back, while burning that incense in her room and her husband guiding the outside. Se-ah reliving her friend's death, her parents' death and finally escaping the false present. ALSO, her long jumps, were like wow!!

Both Si-Won and Hye-Ryung were responsible for this curse and Girigo app. One bullied the other because of her own insecurities and misunderstanding, so the other committed suicide using the same means that was used to bully her and meanwhile offered herself to curse all her friends. But SI-Won didn't stop here, she again made the wish ("her last wish") for the curse to be repeated, and thus everyone who installs the app and makes a wish, must die after the wish is granted i.e. a price needs to be paid. Unless some other person's wish is granted, this person will die within 24 hours.

The series definitely has some gruesome and brutal scenes, explicit suicide and murder scenes. They can be disturbing but it suits the vibe of the drama perfectly and gives it the right amount of thriller and horror. Na-ri's character irritated me throughout. This drama really sheds light on human psychology as well and truly portray how we often feel in certain situations.

Finding the red phone towards the end, this chase really had me hooked. It was so adrenaline-hyped and amazingly written! Though the drama ends on a positive note, it hints towards the scope of other season as this chapter of Girigo has not ended yet. Whatever it is, this season was perfect from start to end. I will not say it is too much of gore, but it is perfect for serious thriller watch. The whole curse story and the concept is bone-chilling and truly horrifying to imagine in real! So do give it a watch, it will not go to waste.

Good but nothing special

It was an okay watch—perfect for passing the time when you have nothing else to watch.

The story was decent and the acting was solid overall. My favourite character was Bang UI—he really brought life to the screen every time he appeared. The horror atmosphere was well done and added a nice layer of tension to the drama.

That said, it wasn't anything particularly special. Nothing about it really stood out or left a lasting impression. It kept me entertained, but if it had been more than 8 episodes, I don't think I would have had the patience to finish it.

I did like our main couple and their determination to save each other. That was probably the most compelling part of the drama and kept me invested enough to see it through.

Verdict: A decent time-filler. Nothing groundbreaking, but enjoyable enough if you're looking for something light and short. Worth a watch if you have nothing better on your list.

bloody themes, strong language, and school settings

If you enjoy bloody themes, strong language, and school settings, then give this a try.

It can feel a bit confusing at first since no backstory is provided, and it seems like a normal school drama. However, once the context is revealed, everything becomes much easier to understand.

The casting is excellent, especially the younger and adult versions of the characters. The actors deliver strong performances that feel natural rather than fake.

I do wish some parts were explained more clearly or given additional context to better understand the characters’ motivations and emotions.

Despite that, it is a show that keeps you hooked, making it hard to stop watching episode after episode.

Overall, it is a great watch, and I hope there will be a second season with more depth and explanation.

Being an optimistic dumb is better than a powerful obscured person.

I felt the relatability, because the most terrifying scenes are the slow cuts and blood shots. I am not scared but I didn't feel fear exactly - more a physical unease, the same involuntary flinch I get when someone asks me to dress their wound.

This series is good. It’s not like all horror movies or series. It's not a terrifying horror series with the sound effects or the ghost appearance. It's mostly blood oozing scenes, which made me squeamish while watching. I am not a horror fan but watch them occasionally because horror makes me differentiate reality and movie. I rarely find myself relating to characters in horror and survival shows, so without relatability I feel less attracted to them. This series made me cover my eyes, and at the same time, the characters are relatable.

Talking about acting, everyone delivered strong performances yet I personally want to mention the main lead. Actor Joen So Young, she perfectly carried me through Yoo Se A’s character arc. At first a cute normal teenager then scared one and standing against her fears and past and then finally becoming a fighter. Never felt like I was watching a series in her scenes. She perfectly embodies the character.

I could see that the characters which are optimistic are less powerful or commanding characters. Like Yoo Se A, a girl with her dream, honest and a happy relationship yet with a troubled past and Do Hye Ryeong similar, with fewer complications. These character types are present in slice of life or other genres as friend characters.

Now, if we take opposite characters Kwon Si Won and Im Na Ri. They are not inherently cruel or evil. These types of characters are most likely presented as main leads in other genres. Both characters can be Choi Nam Ra in “all of us dead" series. These characters are driven by their fears and insecurities. They lose themselves because of their fears and insecurities. If they put that fear and insecurities aside once, I can see they have a far better support system than the things they chase. That one difference landed well and made them villains, I hate them for their response but not their whole existence.

By this series, I thought being an optimistic fool was better than a powerful yet obscured person.

Be Careful What You Wish For

If Wishes Could Kill takes a simple but chilling idea-what if every wish you made came true, but it cost your life within 24 hours-and turns it into a tense, emotional ride set inside a high school. What starts as curiosity quickly spirals into fear, guilt and desperation.

The show's biggest strength is its concept. The "wish app" feels like something that could exist in real life, which makes the horror hit closer to home. It's not just about dying-it's about how far someone is willing to go for their deepest desire, even when they know the consequences. That moral dilemma keeps the story engaging throughout.

The pacing is a slow burn. The first few episodes focus on building characters and relationships, which might feel a bit stretched, but it pays off later when the stakes rise. As more wishes are made, the tension becomes heavier, and the
emotional impact deepens. Performance-wise, the young cast does a solid job portraying fear, regret, and inner conflict. The friendships feel real, and the breakdown of trust as secrets unfold is one of the most gripping aspects of the series.

Visually, the show leans more toward a dark, atmospheric tone rather than jump-scare horror. It creates uneasiness through silence, shadows, and the ticking clock of inevitable death. The gore scenes were very effective and authentic.

However, the series isn't perfect. At times, it relies on familiar K-drama tropes, and a few plot points feel predictable. Also the music sometimes feel way too comedic and doesn't sync with the nature of the drama. The ending might feel a little mixed feeling and abrupt for some viewers.

My Rating : 7.5/10

A free app that comes with a deadly cost

A drama revolving around themes common to growing-up teenagers: love, hate, drama, betrayal, and of course the involvement of social media and the immediate subsequences. Meanwhile, the app, called Girigo and initially only created for a school project, grants everyone a wish, but demands the users life within 24 hours. It captures the ambigious effect of the phone and its app's integrated into it. These serve as a quick satisfaction for its user but fades as quickly within its transcience existence as an entertaining reality. Consequently, the app articulates a warning message: to not indulge in short-term pleasure and hasty decisions. As such, the drama gets it quite right and loads the phone with the proper signifiers: realities shifted into social media, exposure through phones, swift fullfilment aided by apps. However, these seemingly positive aspects share the common consequences which engender hatred, violence and mobbing.

From a narrative perspective, the app and the message it conveys are therefore entirely compelling. However, one key aspect that the drama simply overlooks is the world-building. The world feels cut off, and all the actions feel isolated. Generally speaking, the events seem to lack consistency and appropriate detail: were the school or the girls from the past not investigated, and has everything remained untouched between their suicide and the moment when the teenagers from the present solve the mystery? A huge leap on the part of the creators, in which the police, parents, school staff and people in general do not seem to act in accordance with the events happening around them and affecting them. Only the main characters take action, whilst the rest continue as if nothing has happened

Wishing it made sense

Obviously they have season 2 planned for this. I already know I won't watch it. It is a short series but still felt like it dragged on. I usually like this genre but this did not work for me. It felt like it was put together haphazardly and there were moments I was bored because it was not making sense at all and I just couldn't care for any of the characters. At first, I had high hopes but the more i watched, the more it was evident it was not good.

Wish it had more episodes

Scary and widely, chaotically entertaining! Mind-bending plot twists followed by suspense built so high, I almost had a heart attack.

The shining star is Se Ah, the righteous and kind FL with a painful backstory and a deep love for her friends. I love her spunky personality as she fights the malicious spirits around her. Her romance with GeonU is so adorable, they are the definition of high school puppy love. I just wish they had more scenes together. The chemistry of the friend group is amazing, as each have their own motivations toward each other.

Every character is incredibly fleshed out. With such few episodes, it's incredible how the audience comes to care for the characters so deeply in such a short time. I would rate the horror level a 6 (1 being suitable for scaredy-cats, 10 is I need a priest to exorcise my house, that shit was too scary). There are some jumpscares but it is mostly gore. The show is mainly rooted in Korean shamanism, and how its power wards evil.

The story line was good but can be made better with better tweaks

Kang Mina is becoming better day by day
all total it is a good binge watch for Sat night.
but sone parts remain confusing and needs better plot twisting

The plot centers around a mysterious, ritualistic mobile app called "Girigo." If you type in your name, birth date, and record yourself making a wish, it comes true. The catch? A literal 24-hour death countdown immediately begins on your phone. The only way to stop the timer and survive is to pass the curse along by convincing someone else to make a bloody wish.
When an average student suddenly aces a math test and promptly slits his throat in front of his entire classroom, track-and-field athlete Yoo Se-ah (Jeon So-young) and her circle of friends are dragged into a tech-driven nightmare. To survive, they have to rely on a brilliant classmate, Ha-joon (Hyun Woo-seok), and his estranged shaman sister to find the digital and spiritual root of the curse.

If Wishes Could Kill: When Desire Comes with a Death Sentence 8/10

If Wishes Could Kill (2026) is a tense, thought‑provoking K‑drama that asks a chilling question: what would you do if your deepest wish could cost your own life? At Seorin High School, five friends stumble upon the mysterious Girigo app, a digital genie that grants any wish—but the person who makes the wish dies within the next 24 hours. As the curse tightens, trust crumbles, fear spreads, and every desire becomes a choice between getting what you want most and facing your own death.

The show's core strength lies in its sharp focus on intentions mattering. It's not just about what you wish for, but why you wish for it. Selfless hopes, desperate pleas, and selfish cravings all carry weight, and the narrative forces characters—and viewers—to reckon with the moral cost behind each choice. The higher the desire, the heavier the price, and the series never lets you off the hook with easy answers.

The atmosphere is consistently oppressive, with the app's presence looming over every scene like a ticking clock. Suspicion turns friends against each other, and the psychological strain is palpable. The pacing keeps edges sharp, and the mystery around Girigo's origins unfolds in satisfying, unsettling layers.

While the premise occasionally leans into familiar thriller tropes and a few twists feel predictable, the emotional core remains strong. The characters are well‑drawn, their conflicts grounded in real teenage fears and desires, and the show's willingness to linger on guilt and consequence elevates it beyond a simple horror gimmick.

An 8/10 for a gripping, morally complex thriller that proves: in a world where wishes can kill your own life, intentions matter more than the wish itself.

translation issues aside, it was thrilling !

this was a great premise (the ring x excorism) so it gripped me right away. i love the horror genre and i think the series did great with its casting, the talent of its actors, the execution, and even the music/score elevated the intensity! this was like an exploration into the body horror genre as well~

it was such a sad look at the reality of young adulthood, school bullies, difficult home life, and betrayal. i loved that shamanism was both criticized as well as framed with heroism; many series these days only paint shamanism in a bad light so i thought it was interesting to see how it could be used to “exorcise” demonic forces and intent instead of just being the cause of a curse. the way the spiritual world was executed, how the main characters had to get through the three doors and how haetsal helps guide them in the mortal world was cool asf i ate it upppp😈

a couple criticisms:
- the netflix translations were SO OFF. i’m not even fluent in korean but there were some lines in the english translation that weren’t even remotely said… it takes away from the emotional impact, i believe. the translations tried to explain what was happening instead of letting the audience connect to the characters through their actions and seeing their emotions on screen. sigh
- that ending???? i get you want to express that there may be a second season but it was kind of corny lol also if destroying the thing that caused the curse defeats the curse, why would the app still work? 🤐😭 i’d rather watch a second season that completely focuses on haetsal’s journey into being free from the spirits that are attached to her instead of diving into the app curse again

ALSO i do hope there was no generative AI use 😭 some scenes seemed a lil sus

anyway! i thought this was a pretty decent first season, even though it was so short. i will be seated for what’s next!
