I STARTED AS Masterpiece in the making, got STUCK, and then miraculously solved it at the very end

It started as a really fun, dynamic drama with many parallel stories. The older more experienced actors are amazing, esp the Uncle, the older Policeman, ...
THEN by the middle, the plot went into a totally off direction. ML-FL story was made stupidly into "you kids must obey your parents even if parents order you totally stupid wrong things" and it is dragged TO THE END, it is ep 45 and nothing changed - until ep 48. In the last 2 eps, everything miraculously got solved and out of blue, the drama was ah so rosey lovey dovey

The pacing was totally off. Too much dragging in the middle. The fun scripts with Uncle - who is a master actor - and perhaps FL's dad who is also very fun to watch - were all thrown out and the focus was on the stupid FL-ML story and a few more things.

AND THERE IS NO GROWTH IN CHARACTERS except maybe ML (HB), who decided to rebel his family, and maybe FL's dad who decided to be nicer to his wife. Everyone else is THE SAME AS THEY WERE IN EP 1. In ep 48, all characters are suddenly ah so nice - BUT WE DO NOT SEE HOW THEY GOT THERE

A problem with this drama is that ALL female characters are weak immature insecure and generally DUMB. EVERYONE!!!!
Grandpa nicely socked it to Grandma in ep 45 minute 18. He told her in plain Korean that she is wasting her life having foolish meaningless thoughts. And EVERY single female character in this drama is like that.

FL's mom is a cemented hard core hater and hahypocrite not even brought down with radiation therapy, Grandma is a total dinosaur caked stupid,
Eun Bin is a little spoiled brat who cannot even have a shoehorn thing and feels hurt bc *she* is incompetent,
FL is a little girl in adult body. Aunt as well
SR is a slave driver mean stupid person

NONE of the women in this drama are worth anything and it is already the end of the drama.
It was ok to start like this but to keep them dumb and ignorant like this to the very end is UNFORGIVABLE.

Min So was the only one with any brain cells, but she was a guest from the USA. THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR - IF A KOREAN WOMAN IS TO HAVE ANY BRAIN CELLS, SHE NEEDS TO IMMIGRATE TO THE USA

Just like Iron Family, and Our Golden Days, this started well and ended in a ditch.
Iron Family was just amazing until ... the mama boy obeyed his mama... But - the audience does not love watching poor/disabled/old ppl and laundry service owners? The audience loves watching urban sleek young pretty rich? Imo Iron Family has some of the best scenes and acting, and funny moments. It is sad they made the Orphan poker faced, that actor is so good and I wish he was allowed to act more. OMG THAT DRAMA HAD SUCH GREAT ACTING!!!! I will forever remember scenes of FL's mother finding the Orphan, etc. The plot was KILLED with ML catering to his evil mother and dissing his love. I dropped it them.

Our Golden Days was such a great attempt at social commentary about obeying disfunctional elders, women who stand up for themselves and TALK! omg the sexist audience totally trashed FL there bc SHE TALKS!!! omg! how dare she!!!! then the social issue of retired ppl having to work... realistic young male character ML who is selfish.... etc but then it totally flopped... Bc there was no movement forward and there was too many stuck selfish nasty characters. It was just too much. Then the drama made the ML into a teenage idiot, FL into a naive damsel in distress, etc Ah it was ugly. I dropped that one.

And now this - seems like KBS decided to make something as close as happy-go-lucky Hwood and keep it simple, stupid, and just avoid ANY social issues except something very basic, like WHAT WILL OTHER PPL THINK OF US and how gossip destroys people and communities
SOMETHING THAT EVEN SHALLOW AUDIENCE CAN RELATE TO

OK... so it started as a great comedy family drama and ended up as just mucking in muck until the last minute. Seems like some was resolved at the end but seems like magically overnight.
FL's mother and grandma are HATERS TO THE MAX, and ML's stepmom and father are actually low level criminals. ML's grandpa is a dictator moron. ML's Aunt is just dumb and weak.
The only characters that had anything in them are Uncle - but he fizzled out by the middle -
then FL's brother, and Mi So from Baltimore.
ML is "a good guy" but he is too good to be real and thus his character is boring
FL's designer friend is "a good guy" but the actor is very weak so it fizzled
ML's chairwoman friend "is a good gal" but again her character was written so badly and was not interesting

FL treated ML as crap
and then magically transformed at the end? Same with FL mom and dad, ML mom and dad, ..... Common. That's lazy writing. Also, having ML as this super dedicated good guy. Heck. He should have bolted out long time ago. Why bother catering to a very selfish fickle immature FL

ML's grandma story should be there bc MLs grandpa and son WERE/ARE very dark nasty characers :) The son is a low-level criminal, really, and grandpa is a dictator, and both are DUMB

The drama was made super simple to cater to even shallow audience
and the "cultural issues" you mention are not really THE cultural issues lol They are very basic issues anywhere
The problem with drama was that the script was just very poor and lazy

And the problem with this drama is not that it had "obey your family" issue but that IT LASTED TOO LONG. The entire drama was spent in the muck instead of working to resolve it.

This drama has NO social commentary beyond "obey your family", "what will other ppl think of us" and "how gossip destroys ppl and communities". It is a very simplistic and shallow fun-and-games drama, very similar to Hwood.

At least the drama could have done the little it tried properly and paced the plot properly.
The drama was writen as if it will be 100 ep drama. The pacing is AWFUL

I was watching KimChi Family 2011 kdrama, soooo good... so I was skipping on this one bc this one is of much lesser quality, to be honest . Link to it in the spoiler. It took me forever to find it since Prime doesnt have it anymore

The writer here made such a STUPID choice to make FL SO DUMB AND LIKE A LITTLE GIRL!!! so she holds HB's life in her hands, holding the ladder, AND she lets go of a ladder and even pushes it bc she saw a cockroach???? and almost killed HB...

HB too is made stupid, to like this child and never stand up to her. Well he did stand up to her a little bit with all the bickering, but the bickering is totally STUPID - little girl JA keeps on whining that he doesnt give her attention, then keeps accusing him of trying to, ...

JA IS WRITTEN UP AS A LITTLE CHILD MORON ALL THE WAY UP TO THE VERY END SO THE WRITER IS WASTING THE SCRIPT

THE SCRIPT SHOULD HAVE BEEN JA FIGHTING HARD FOR HB,
NOT JA WHINING AND THEN MAGICALLY AT THE VERY LAST MINUTE, PERHAPS HB FIGHTS AND GIVES IT TO HER ON THE SILVER PLATTER

FL already looks like a little girl, so skinny and so frail, she CERTAINLY DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A GROWN WOMAN

This drama has been fun. 10 star, fun and deep drama. Fighting! It will be amazing to keep this up for 50 episodes!

Just watched ep 16. Ep 15 sent me off my chair, almost fell on the floor laughing.... Omg this drama has great script and actors, and then such great acting creativity and improvisation to make the script come ALIVE and so real and funny...

The drama is so ... warm, hilarious, deep, and transformational. It is so fun to be a part of history and watch this drama being made as one of the classic masterpieces of kdramas.
The EXCELLENT acting, a smart director who lets the actors improvise and really have fun with their roles, excellent camera, and a very great and reasonable script. A great drama.

Everything i said after watching ep 2 holds. This drama keeps holding the plot in hilarious, tragic, daily-life mundane and life changing ways.
The drama presents life questions, family issues, and cultural, personal, and business success questions in engaging, deep and meaningful ways, with lots of fun. It is a great GREAT great drama.

This kdrama has the potential to become one of the classic masterpieces. GO FOR IT. Fighting!

Just watched ep 2. Wow fun. Lots of interesting stories and a real "native" plot, and lots of very accomplished actors and good acting, and lots of comedy..... and real life deep issues, some heavy... but told in a sophisticated compassionate way

Mi Yong the star from 3 Bold Siblings is here, but in a very very livid dynamic active and comical role LMAO you will not recognize him.... He is an amazing actor :) He is bouncing off with his brother and the two of them are hilarious.

There are a few other actors also in a more active lively version, really shining. There are some new faces we have not seen at all or recently

The characters and the plots and the side plots are really interesting and very real. Very deep and relevant in daily life... Older couples who fell apart, cheating spouses, kids in love, pressure to perform, money problems, intergenerational stuff, greedy ppl, survival of traditional culture, life habits of the new generations, etc etc etc etc it is so ... good to watch how they address these issues

it is all done with a certain lightness and compassion and great humor that is the "magic ingredient" that only kdramas have,
and great teamwork between people to make their lives better and happier,

it is very transformational

I love it

I think with this many side plots, this drama will always stay very active and moving along.

LET IS VOTE INDIVIDUAL EPISODES TO INCREASE THE RATING.

If you want to be technical about it, the magic of this drama is GREAT STORYTELLING - the script is great to start with, and actors really juice it up and make it real and very funny.
The script shows how characters grow. That is the key element #1 of a good story. A truly great story, one that we remember, shows how a character overcame their character flaws, how people overcame their bad relationships. A good story is based on the RISE AND SHINE principle, where a character chooses NOT to focus on whacking those who harmed them, but chooses to become the BEST VERSION OF THEMSELVES. In the daily context, that also translates into living life in honesty and integrity and open affection adn compassion, and healing all conflicts with other people and moving into a more peaceful and collaborative consciousness. (that is why cdramas will never make it, by the default this is not possible in the Big Brother world. But I digress :)
And when there is some humor and dramaticism to illistrate the concept, the story becomes super watchable.
And for some reason kdramas can do this. Never been to S Korea but something there makes this possible - somehow there is WISDOM and CREATIVITY and a certain high standard for morals and integrity, with full acknowledgement of the realities of life. Why S Korea of all places, I do not know. But it is surely there. I have some ideas why. I think karaoke bars and throwing out bad governments have a huge role in this. And probably strong Buddhist roots.

This high level of entertaining storytelling requires people/ place that is faulty but aware of it and trying to fix it, with compassion. it is extremely sophisticated and very very fine. (Again, a key reason why cdramas always stay so crude. Too bad, China has a lot to offer, but is locked up.)

kdramas show utmost mastery of storytelling, and this particular drama so far has all 16 episodes of utmost mastery of storytelling and is a great and very fine example of what kdramas can offer
