Orphan Ruan Zhi suffers a double betrayal: her step sister, Ruan Jia Jia, plots to drug her, and her boyfriend of many years cheats on her with her best friend. Ruan Zhi unexpectedly has a relationship with her boyfriend's father, Hong Kong business mogul Rong Jun Heng. Ruan Zhi faces inheritance disputes within the Ruan family while simultaneously discovering Rong Che's infidelity. Under this double pressure, Ruan Zhi agrees to Rong Jun Heng's proposal—marriage! After the marriage, Rong Jun Heng transforms into a fiercely protective husband, helping Ruan Zhi reclaim her shares and punish her uncle's family. With Rong Jun Heng's support, Ruan Zhi gradually transforms from a manipulated victim into a woman who takes control of her own destiny. Their relationship evolves from a marriage of convenience into a mutual commitment. Zhao Ting Yi as mob boss - yes, sir I liked it a lot!

I am a fan of Zhao Ting Yi. He is one of those actors who demonstrated vulnerability of his characters very well that I feel moved by his performances. I remembered the date this drama was released - I watched it immediately. This is one of the dramas with "I Marry My Ex's Father" storyline - I had Yu Shang Xu's version in my watchlist but I watched this drama first. Overall I liked the drama but expected more.

What I liked:
1. Styling - Wow, Zhao Ting Yi and Liu Yu Tong made the most handsome father-son combo in the history of vertical dramas. FL had pretty clothes and we can confirm that Deng Ling Shu looks fabulous in red. I liked the burgundy suit worn by ML and the burgundy jacket worn by FL.
2. Mob boss - I loved the mob boss vibe exuded by Zhao Ting Yi. The scenes that have the gang were exciting.
3. Supporting characters - Ah Xiu was perceptive - such a great henchman. I liked the scene where brothers paid respect.
4. Ending - Loved that sweet ending.
5. Language - It was cool to hear Cantonese dialogues.
6. Framing - Beautifully shot scenes. Wonderful production value.
7. Acting - I really liked Zhao Ting Yi's acting. Deng Ling Shu, the actress who played her bestie and the actor who played Ah Xiu gave good performances too.

What I disliked:
1. Writing - At times I found the drama boring & draggy.
2. Romance - No cultivation of feelings. Only two kisses with hardly any couple time / affectionate moments.
3. Antagonists - SML was a pathetic nepo baby. FL's bestie was a traitor. FL's uncle was a pervert.
4. Casting - I felt Deng Ling Shu was miscast in this drama. She didn't fit the look of FL (inexperienced, naive woman in early 20s). At times I got the vibe of The Wife with An Agenda because of the way Deng Ling Shu played the character.

Excellence

A few scenes of mob/gangster scenarios and inferences. But kept to a minimum. Nothing excessive or gratuitous. Trope: My boyfriend cheated with my best friend. After breaking up I married his father. (Different in that the marriage was done so she could claim her inheritance, not as an emotional response to the infidelity or for revenge.)

Visually elegant. Everything about this is close to perfection. A chance to see some real craft skills. Kudos to casting. Performances, including several supports, more than impressive. Zhao Ting Yi was dominant, even when not on screen. He and Deng Ling Shu were a stellar match. Newer actors (Li Yu Tong & Shu Han Yu) were surprisingly outstanding. Zhu Xiang as Ma San? Awesome! And that's an understatement. The actress who played the clan matriarch managed to be both loving and a true dragon queen. Every one of her and Zhu Xiang's scenes were a treat.

A top rewatch and on my all time favorites list.

AKA - My One and Only

Note: REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHO PLAYED THE CLAN MATRIARCH! And expanded cast info.
