Two Broken Souls, One Heartbreaking Journey This BL Deserves More Attention Than It Gets
So many good Chinese BLs are airing lately, and I came across this series on GagaOOLala. Gosh, it did not disappoint at all. At first, I expected a simple high school romance, but this drama is so much darker, emotional, and thrilling than I imagined. It honestly deserves way more attention.I honestly don’t understand how some Thai BLs get so much attention when the plot is weak, the acting feels cringe, and the story goes nowhere. Meanwhile, Lost to You is genuinely one of the best series I’ve watched recently, yet it remains so underrated.
The story follows Zhan Wang, a rich teenager who returns to his hometown while secretly carrying a terminal illness, and Xu Yuan, a hardworking top student struggling to support his family while being treated like a jinx by the entire town. Their personalities clash at the beginning, but watching their relationship slowly grow felt so natural and emotional without being overly dramatic.
What really makes this series stand out is the atmosphere and emotional depth. The plot keeps you invested without revealing too much too quickly, and every episode carries this heavy emotional tension that makes it hard to stop watching. This series completely broke me and had me crying so much. The way the emotions slowly build and make you attached to the characters feels so real and natural.
Every scene feels meaningful, and the pain, love, and struggles of the characters stay with you even after the episode ends. The fighting scenes were surprisingly well done, the soundtrack fit perfectly with the mood, and the acting from both leads was excellent.
It is rare to find a BL where the plot itself is this strong while also delivering such emotional impact. China once again proves how strong their BL storytelling can be, especially when mixing romance with darker themes and emotional depth. Everything about this series worked for me, the chemistry, the cinematography, the music, and the heartbreaking yet beautiful story.
This series has also made me cried a few times, the hospital scene was absolutely heartbreaking. Watching the person you love lying in front of you, not knowing if they'll survive, has to be one of the most painful things anyone could experience. When he said, "I have to have my surgery. I might go blind or die," my heart shattered.Xu Yuan's response made the scene even more emotional. "I'll stay with you no matter what." Such a simple promise, yet it carried so much love, fear, and unwavering devotion. The performances were incredible, and the raw emotion felt so real that I couldn't hold back my tears. This episode reminded me that sometimes the quietest moments of love are the ones that hurt the most. 💔
Ending Review
I know a lot of people on that page didn’t like the ending, especially because Xu Yuan’s terminal illness seemed to be left unanswered.
Maybe I see it a little differently. In the end, not every question needed an answer. As long as they had each other, that was enough. You could see that Xu Yuan was willing to give up his life for Zhan Wang, and that kind of love speaks louder than any explanation.
I agree the finale could have been stronger, but it still touched my heart. It made me cry more than once, and despite its flaws, it’s a story I’ll gladly return to. Some endings are imperfect, yet the emotions they leave behind stay with us long after the screen fades to black.
Definitely a must-watch for BL fans because Lost to You deserves so much more recognition. This is the kind of series that reminds you how powerful storytelling can be.

What was the finale?
While I watched the show, it was the typical stuff I expected from such a show. We had the evil dad, who turns out to be gay in the finale, we have misunderstandings and we have even two gay and one lesbian couple... And because any show needs drama, we have the bullying. So far, so good. But the finale... WTF? The both stand of the rocks and watch the broken up comet which were toooooo far away to have any impact directly, but of course could have made a tsunami is they would have hit water. Normally they should have the comet up their faces and then ok, they both die - for what is the question? Xu giving in so willingly did also not make much sense. When you are already out, you should not care about others anymore. Period.
So for me, the finale did ruin the whole series, because for me it makes no sense whatsoever. Dad being outed as being gay came too late, that would have had more impact if we had seen his past also. That he then turned 180 degrees also makes no sense. When you are in denial for DECADES, you do not change over night, It would have made more sense, when Wang had beaten him up about it, but no. But I guess they did not think about that or they run out of time (and budget) becauase they wasted it through the whole story. The series did have it's lengths, they could have compacted the story and put in some other focus like the dad to have much more impact.
And because the finale ruins everything I don't get the high praise from some reviews... what is wrong with you people? While the acting of the MLs was fine, the acting of the side couple was weak. They did not feel natural in the series, but when you see them in private they have the chemistry which is missing in this series. Production quality was also fine, but that can't save any series. Because of all the factors I deducted my rating heavily... it could have been a 7.5 with a proper finale, but this felt rushed and imprudent. And I don't like it.
