If you loved Double Helix and are looking for something with a similar emotional intensity, Deep in the Act is an easy recommendation.

Both stories build their romance through an irresistible push-and-pull dynamic, where longing is communicated as much through lingering glances, restrained emotions, and charged silence as through dialogue. Rather than rushing into the relationship, they let the chemistry simmer, making every moment of eye contact and physical closeness feel meaningful.

The leads in both series share a magnetic screen presence, balancing vulnerability with confidence. Their interactions are filled with tension, mutual fascination, and an undercurrent of yearning that keeps you invested in every scene. Even when little is happening on the surface, there’s always emotional movement beneath it.

Visually, both dramas also lean into cinematic storytelling, using lighting, framing, and intimate close-ups to heighten the emotional atmosphere. The result is a romance that feels immersive and emotionally rich rather than simply plot-driven.

If what captivated you in Double Helix was the slow-burning attraction, palpable chemistry, emotional restraint, and the feeling that every shared glance carried weight, then Deep in the Act delivers many of those same qualities while telling its own distinct story.

Deep In and BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita Crank Up Hen both center on actors navigating the entertainment industry, where working closely together on BL productions gradually blurs the line between professional performance and genuine romantic feelings.

Psychological stories about an actor that becomes involved romantically/sexually with their castmate

Themes of manipulation and obsession
Lines between reality and fiction/acting start to blur as the characters become entangled in a messy and forbidden off stage romance/relationship.

Deep in the Act and The Sparkle in Your Eye center on actors who are brought together by work and pushed into living together to build convincing on-screen chemistry.

As they rehearse, film intimate scenes, and navigate the pressures of the entertainment industry, the line between performance and reality gradually disappears, leading to a slow-burn romance built on trust, vulnerability, and genuine emotional connection.

Both shows have in common:
- are BL
- about actors, film industry and filmmaking
- falling in love within the industry and it's difficulties
- damn beautiful and clever cinematography and visual storytelling
- explicit NC scenes
- some kink here and there

differences:

Deep In is about well seasoned actors and the characters they play in a gay movie. How they get closer on cam, off cam and on set while reality and fiction melts into each other. Which they both, as assumed straight guys, struggle with a lot. It feels really like watching RPF where BL actors fall in love for real.

Payback is about a guy who wants to take revenge on his evil ex who ruined his life, who is now a popular actor. So he wants to dethrone him no matter what he has to do for it but starts with 0 knowledge about acting. It's less about acting but more about the film industries dark and ugly sides. But still has a lot of beauty and love in it. The main gets involved (and falls in love) with someone powerful and influential within the media company who helps with his revenge.
