Kayano Satoru, a nineteen-year-old from a rural town in Kyushu, moves to Tokyo in search of "something he is meant to do." Eager to take the first step toward his dreams, he heads to the hotel where he has already secured a job. However, it turns out not to be an ordinary "hotel," but a "love" hotel. Though stunned by this discovery, Satoru sets out to perform his first assigned task, "doing the laundry," at a nearby coin laundry, which turns out to be a gathering place for an eccentric group of people his own age. There is Matsuyama Tae, the dependable daughter of the laundry's owner; Mizuno Yoshihiro, a passionate young man struggling to make ends meet as a theater actor; Nakajima Miharu, a beautiful but unfriendly hostess; Aida Satomi, who makes herself at home in the coin laundry as though it were her own room; Yamamoto Shintaro, a part-timer from a wealthy family; and Hasegawa Yuji, a cabaret club waiter.
