Set in K City in the Hokuriku region, the story opens with a poisoning at a prominent family estate that leaves seventeen people dead—the Nakaogaki-cho Mass Murder Incident. Even thirty years later, those connected to the case continue to be haunted and thrown into turmoil by the poisoning. Among them are three women: a novelist who was the first to discover the crime scene and later wrote a work based on the incident, a blind girl who survived the massacre, and a writer investigating the case.
