Ama (2027)

Set in the 1960s, the story follows Hirano Nagisa, a woman in her twenties who has lost her sense of belonging after struggling to adjust to life in the city and to the people around her. Following the death of her grandfather, she travels to Hegura Island in Ishikawa Prefecture, where her mother was born and raised. There, she meets her aunt, Funatomi Kozue, and a group of resilient and proud ama divers who make their living alongside the harsh yet bountiful sea. As Nagisa encounters the culture of the ama, which is gradually disappearing amid the changing times, and experiences the warmth of the island's people, she learns of her mother's hidden past and begins searching for her own path in life.
