This is not your typical family drama in which everybody hooks up with everybody in the end or finds happiness elsewhere. Its premise sets from the love games and pain that we cause to each other and what lies and masks can do in relationships.
It's more of a lesson to us that trust and love must both be present in a relationship and if you build it with lies they will all crumble in the end. I can't say I disliked the ending, it was all to real and all to familiar to things I know, have seen and have felt in my own life.
Therefore, it's not sad, it's just real, and in that lies its beauty.

This drama is engaging because it reflects time honored social mores of a 2004 society that leave the viewer questioning the value of these traditions in a modern society. Especially a society that treasures immigration and education of its children in the U.S.---the liberal land of free expression of thought, word and deeds. This contradiction is befuddling but the contrasts are what hooks you to the drama. The role of parents in a child's life (a child over 25), the disclosure of -"too much information" but failure to disclose the most important information, the need to lie, lie and more stupid lies with the same outcomes. The most entertaining part of watching this drama was comparing it to several current dramas (2014-2015) and realizing - not much has changed -- except the year. The performances of the actors/actresses - (all well known) are outstanding and the writers do a good job keeping to the theme of the drama.

If you are a k drama addict and have almost exhausted your list of top dramas -- add this one to the list. Long but worth the time spent.

believe me it is a very good drama. i have not been expecting. the best family drama i have seen so far.maybe the protagonists or the resume don't look attractive but don't hesitate,it's the first family drama that I never skipped a scene I lived their lives and cried with them, I suffered with them, I laughed with them[excellent humor in some scenes}it had a lot of truth and the dialogues were very good, they were all in moderation.there were no stupid exaggerations. they had very difficult family situations but they were evolving to a very real normal way, while this drama has a lot of episodes that tired me out of it I didn't want it to end ,watch this

The drama descended into the depths of revulsion with its gratuitous and sensationalistic approach to storytelling, leaving us appalled by its lack of subtlety and tact. Its heavy reliance on cheap tactics and low blows served only to alienate and inflame. The writing veered into the abyss of absurdity, sacrificing logical leniency and impartiality for the sake of eliciting visceral reactions. Broken balance system by design to further push this same narrative. A case in point, Eun Pa and Yun Tek as well as their individual paths. There was a big opportunity for the drama to do some real character reflection but it decided to ignore it, it only did it very briefly with Eun Pa in the first 1/3 of the drama. The drama had the audacity to deliver a message at the end of the drama from the cast members on what the "terms of endearment" means while miserably failing to portray what they preached in the message itself, pathetic and shameful. There were two main stories running in parallel, one for each of the sisters, however, they didn't interconnect well. The older sister had her world falling part, yet she was always emotionally discharged and normal when helping her younger sister, detracting from the seriousness and tension of her own story. On the other hand, the third sister was utterly useless in the entire dynamic, she should have played the linking bridge between everyone. In general most of the stories remained underdeveloped, cut short or had no direction, even the side ones, despite having a very generous long runtime. In its quest for conspicuous sensationalism, the drama lost sight of any memorable qualities, leaving us disheartened by its blatant disregard for a reasonable delivery to what it preached.

Old but Gold!

Glad I came accross this drama while thinking what to watch with the new ones.

Here is what I can say with my fav and annoyed characters.
Kang Keum Pah - what I hate about her is her revenge on her husband. But eventually it was redeemed by being a headstrong woman she become and always helping her family especially her youngest sister Eun Pah.
Noh Yun Tek - love his character. He was such a martir. He loves Eun Pah unconditionally. Sadly their love didnt fully develop.
Kang Eun Pa - hate her for hurting Yun Tek but then eventually pity her then later loved her even if she has many lies throughout the drama. I cried a lot because of what she had been thru.
Nah Jang Soo - admire him, love his character especially when she embrace his wifes past. And standing for her from his parents.
Jin Jung Han - hate him for his infidelity and for not standing for his wife infront of his annoying mom. If I where her wife I would never forgive him.
Nah Aeri - hate her from the start. But on her last days on this drama she redeem herself by not spilling the beans to her family regarding Eun Pah’s secret. She chose to keep silent for her love to her brother.
Overall I gaved this series a 10/10.
The drama ended beautifully by putting the characters to its right places.
