Films I would Recommend in a Heartbeat (Part II)
Though this isn't exactly the newest news out there, I still decided to write about this since no one else has on MDL. This article will give a quick rundown of the facts. This article refers to the assault case that involves Kim Hyun Joong and his now ex-girlfriend.
Here are the known facts: (source: ALLKPOP)
A's (girlfriend) side of the story:
- 1. The woman said that she has been dating Kim Hyun Joong since April 2012.
- 2. She said that the assault began at the end of May to mid-July of this year (2014).
- 3. A appears to have confronted him about some women troubles, wanting to break up with him. His response was to ask her why she kept suspecting him. This escalated into him using his hands and feet to hit her.
- 4. A says he punched and kicked her, and that she suffered injuries on her face, chest, arms, and butt in May (2014). She was told by the hospital it was going to take 2 weeks for her to recover.
- 5. "Women troubles arose, and it turned into assault... The past two months were a repetition of beatings, apologies, and forgiveness. However, the situation got worse, and that's why 'A' decided to report it." - A's friend added
- 6. It is also said that one of her rib was broken as well.
Kim Hyun Joong's side of story:
- 1. Through his agency KeyEast, he has stated that they met in 2012 but that they didn't start dating until only a few months ago.
- 2. On reports of her being beaten and battered, or that there were continual physical assaults (like what was reported), he has stated that these are not true.
- 3. On the other hand, he admits that in the middle of their relationship, the two had an intense exchange of words that got physical.
- 4. KeyEast (Kim Hyun Joong's agency) said,"Their physical fight was a one time occurrence, and her fractured ribs didn't occur due to their recent argument. Her ribs were injured when they were playing around previously, and the next day, they met with acquaintances. As there didn't seem to be anything abnormal, her injury wasn't recognized."
According to Dispatch:
Dispatch got ahold of a picture the two took together in April 2012 (taken inside Kim Hyun Joong's home in Cheongdamdong), as well was one from March 2014 (two on a date in a restaurant while he was filming for 'Generation of Youth').
In August 2013, A is also said to have been seen at the wedding of Kim Hyun Joong's older brother. Even earlier this year, the two enjoyed dates at a golf course, on Jeju Island, and more.
Some of their text messages were:
A: "My whole body is covered in bruises...It hurts. I'm so upset about this. I was beat up to the point I was barely alive. Why do I need to be hit like this?"
Kim Hyun Joong: "I'm sorry, let's end this now, because of you, I feel like I saw a side to myself I hadn't seen in a few years." after his concert in Japan he said "I don't know why I did that when I was going to feel sorry in less than a day. I hope the bruises and pain get better quickly. I'm truly sorry." and at the end of August, 2014 he sent a closure message "I'm sorry. I hope you rediscover the two years that you had lost. This is how I truly feel."
While KeyEast only acknowledged one incident of a physical fight on May 30, A said it started at the end of May and actually ran until the end of July. According to the complaint lodged at the Songpa Police Station, during those two months, there were more than three rounds of physical, mental, and psychological assault.
KeyEast had stated in their statement that the rib injury actually took place when they were 'playing around' from a time before this 'one time' physical fight. However, it turns out the rib injury came about 50 days after their physical fight according to hospital records. Therefore, Dispatch says, KeyEast is wrong when they said it was from an earlier time when they were playing.

On this matter KeyEast said "For now we are sticking to what was said in our official statement, and any further information will be released through police investigations." When asked if their position might change after investigations, the agency reiterated, "Rather than not changing our position, it will be revealed through police investigations."
Aside from this, it was reported that Kim Hyun Joong may enlist next year having requested a postponement on his enlistment date for mandatory military service. KeyEast Entertainment confirmed that this is true, but also explained that his request for the postponement had been put in before his alleged assault case came to light.
Anyway, he is being summoned for investigation on his assault case early next week. He is also planning on carrying out his tour schedule without any delays.
Now, in the end I would like to give my take on this matter. First of all, I have to say that I am a BIG fan of Kim Hyun Joong (not so big if this turns out to be true). Personally, i'd like to think that this is all a lie. Unfortunately some things are clear:
1. She was his girlfriend for at least 1 year.
2. He did hit her at least once.
Now, I think these 2 facts are the most important ones. What I don't know, is whether it's as grave as she makes it to be. We all know that couples have their own arguments and sometimes it can get a little physical, but going from that to broken ribs is a long way. However, even as a fan this is something that one must be objective on. Unfortunately, from what has been revealed so far, I believe the fault stands with Kim Hyun Joong. You just can't put your girlfriend in the hospital and say "I'm really sorry" afterwards.
