Currently Watching:
Pride and Prejudice
No, in case you were wondering, this is not about Jane Austen’s book. But this is about pride and about prejudice, since the main characters obviously have a lot of pride, and seem to have prejudice against each other.
Pride and Prejudice is a new Korean drama, airing on MBC in the Mon-Tue slot, since October 27th. I know there are a lot of "Currently Watching" articles on MDL these days, but I really enjoy this drama so far, so I decided to make one too.
But first, let me talk about the story:
You have to know that there is a lot of mystery surrounding the characters in the beginning, so I can’t tell you much if I don’t want it to be a spoiler. (Note: I’m writing this after completing episode 6).
The main character, Han Yeol Moo (Baek Jin Hee) just became a trainee prosecutor. She works in the same office as Koo Dong Chi (Choi Jin Hyuk), who is her senior, and we learn right away that they have met before. Han Yeol Moo immediately tells him that she came to take revenge on him… But why? I will let you discover this… (Honestly, who would want to take revenge on a man as cute as him? And he also seems to really care for her…)
They work with Kang Soo (Lee Tae Hwan), an investigator who is like a brother to Kang Chi (and is adorable. He is so nice, and caring), their colleagues, Lee Jang Won (Choi Woo Shik) who hates his job, and Ju Kwang Min (Jeong Hye Seong) who “hates prosecutor women even more than prosecutors” (yes, she is a female prosecutor), along with Moon Hee Man (Choi Min Soo), their lunatic boss.
As prosecutors, they face cases and solve them. But Yeol Moo seems to have a hidden motive by becoming a prosecutor, that motive being a special case she wants to solve… I’ll let you discover what happened.
Why did I start this drama?
I started it because of both Choi Jin Hyuk and Baek Jin Hee, because I love these actors and was curious about their chemistry. The plot seemed interesting, and I really like law dramas too, so it was a perfect combination. And the potential romantic relationship of course.
My opinion:
So far (it’s been only 6 episodes) I really like it. Their past story is slowly unfolding, and I want to learn more about it, and know how it will turn out. The cases they work on are really fascinating, and I like seeing them solve them, and cheer for them.I like this kind of dramas, because the characters are doing their best with the cases they have to solve, and there is always suspense. And so far, I haven’t been disappointed with them!!
I also like the chemistry between the leads, they are both helping the other while trying to make their life harder… This kind of scenario (a couple that broke up and meet again) is not original at all. We had a lot of dramas like that this year, but it’s still enjoyable anyway, and the reason of the separation is obscure, making it even more interesting!!
Why you should watch it:
Eye candy: I don’t want to sound shallow, but Choi Jin Hyuk sure is eye candy, and even his voice is "handsome". He also has some cute moments which make me like him even more!! And Lee Tae Hwan also enters the category…
Finding the truth: this is a drama with suspense. Maybe not a lot at first, but with the cases getting harder, it’s getting more and more interesting. And it’s enjoyable to see the protagonists getting closer and closer to the truth (and to each other). Because it’s a kdrama, and we all know the end will be a happy one. But how will it happen? That is the question.
The cliché: what kind of reason is that, I hear you asking. Let me explain: the other members of the prosecuting team are all a bit cliché, but this is what makes the drama funny, so it’s nice.
Want more reasons? Baek Jin Hee is pretty awesome. Her character can get annoying, but she portrays her very well, and you can still understand her reasons.
Finally, if you liked I Hear Your Voice or Prosecutor Princess, it is very likely that you will like this one too. So give it a try! What are you waiting for?! Law, revenge, mystery, crime, but also romance, if this is your kind of drama, go for it!!
One of the trailers, if you want to get an idea of what it looks like!!
