Kim Sung Kyung who was introduced as Lami of SM Entertainment's SM Rookies will continue her career as an actress instead of an idol.
On December 22nd, several reports shared that Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) will return to acting through the upcoming K-drama "Oh! Youngsimi."
SM Entertainment shared its official statement regarding the casting reports. The agency confirmed that Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) will be part of the cast of the upcoming romantic comedy drama "Oh! Youngsimi."
The agency also clarified that Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) is currently busy studying acting at a university. They also stated that she is more interested in acting so she doesn't have plans to debut as an idol in the future.
Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) was introduced in 2013 as part of SM Entertainment's pre-debut team called SM Rookies. It is a preview of the rookies that will make a debut as an idol through SM Entertainment. She was one of the rookies that stood out for her appearance. Many expected Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) to get the center position of the girl group that will be created by the agency in the future.
Before Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) became more known as part of SM Rookies, she already made her acting debut as a child. She was part of the K-dramas "Twinkle Twinkle," "Me too, Flower!," "A Wife’s Credentials," and "Five Fingers."
"Oh! Youngsimi" will depict the story of Youngshim who will experience the sweetness and bitterness in life in her 30s. She will reunite with her old-time friend and now a successful CEO through a love entertainment show. The drama will depict its story from Korean animation with the same title.
Kim Sung Kyung (Lami) will be joining the main leads Super Junior's Lee Dong Hae, Song Ha Yoon, Lee Min Jae, and Jung Woo Yeon in the upcoming series.
The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of directors Kim Eun Kyung and Oh Hwan Min and writer Jeon Seon Young.
"Oh! Youngsimi" has already finished filming and it will premiere in the first half of next year.
