JTBC explains their side regarding the controversy surrounding the ongoing drama "Snowdrop."

JTBC stated, ever since the premiere of the two episodes of "Snowdrop," the controversy regarding historical distortion has occurred once again that's why they are releasing a statement.

The broadcast station clarified the speculations. First, the important incidents in the drama are in the time of the military regime. Although this is the case, it narrates a fictional story of vested interests colluding with the North Korean regime to maintain power. The drama narrates the personal stories of each person who was used, sacrificed, and victimized by those in authority.

They also stated that there is no spy who leads the pro-democracy movement in the drama. JTBC also clarified that the main leads were not shown participating or leading the movement in the aired episodes (episodes 1 and 2.) In the future as well, it will not be seen as well. It's not even part of the future script.

They also reiterated that the concerns regarding history distortion and the dismissing of the democratization movement will be settled once they see the progress of the drama's plot. It will also be shown in the drama that the production team also hoped that there will be no repetition of the abnormal era where individual freedom and happiness are oppressed by unjust power.

JTBC also hoped that viewers will watch more on the future development of the drama because they can't reveal much of the plot of the future episodes. This way, they can settle the misunderstandings.

The broadcast channel will also open the portal site’s real-time chat window and the official viewers’ message board so that they can hear the valuable opinions of the public regarding JTBC's contents.

JTBC ended its statement by stating that the key value that the broadcast network pursues is the freedom of content creation and independence in production. JTBC  reassured that they will do their best and show more good works.

On December 18th there was a petition on the bulletin board of the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae. In the petition, it stated that the airing of the ongoing JTBC drama "Snowdrop" should be stopped. It garnered 200,000 signatures in a day.

The petitioner called out the drama and stated, "There are real victims of activists who were tortured as spies without any basis during the democratization movement. Making this kind of drama shows that they are disregarding the value of the pro-democracy movement.
