On July 10th, the production team of tvN's upcoming weekend drama The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch unveiled new stills that show Kang Ki Young in his role as Pil Kwang, a formidable evil spirit and a force to be reckoned with by the Counters.

Explaining his decision to choose The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch as his comeback project after a year, Kang Ki Young stated, "My entire family enjoyed watching The Uncanny Counter, so when Season 2 was proposed, I thought, 'I would love to see it with my family'. Above all, I couldn't resist the temptation of portraying the fascinating character of Pil Kwang".

With Season 1 receiving immense love from viewers, Kang Ki Young also felt the weight of expectations upon joining Season 2. He shared, "There was both excitement and pressure in taking on an unexplored character and wondering whether I would be able to do justice to it".   Additionally, he mentioned, "Above all, I couldn't resist the challenge of expanding my acting spectrum by playing Pil Kwang".

The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch has thrust Kang Ki Young into the spotlight with his portrayal of Pil Kwang, marking the most dramatic transformation in his filmography. He explained, "I attempted things I had never done before. To avoid appearing cute or comical as an antagonist, I underwent weight loss and did strength training. Even my hairstyle was intentionally unusual and somewhat exaggerated".

As the series progresses, Kang Ki Young shared, "Especially as we approach the middle part, with the Counters growing stronger, I constantly felt that the action is no joke".

Highlighting the contrast between the evil characters in Season 1 and Season 2, Kang Ki Young explains, "While the evil characters in Season 1 coexisted with humans in their daily lives, the evil characters in Season 2 embody pure evil, existing solely for malicious deeds".

The on-screen chemistry between Kang Ki Young and the existing Counters has also captured the attention of the public. Reflecting on their synergy during filming, Kang Ki Young shared his thoughts, saying, "While the drama's main story revolves around the clash between good and evil, on set, the director, actors, and staff brainstormed how to shoot scenes more harmoniously and enjoyably. We had a delightful time filming as we pondered this question".

He further expressed his hopes for the series, stating, "Just as Season 1 received much love, we worked hard to ensure that Season 2 also receives ample love. I firmly believe that positive energy has been encapsulated within the drama, and I sincerely hope that viewers will thoroughly enjoy it with great interest and love".

The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch will premiere on July 29th on Netflix.
