Lee Min Ho embarks on a journey to a space station carrying a secret mission in When the Stars Gossip.
tvN's upcoming weekend drama, When the Stars Gossip follows Eve Kim (Gong Hyo Jin), a top astronaut and perfectionist who does not tolerate even a single mistake, and Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho), an uninvited guest on a secret mission.
Lee Min Ho plays the role of Gong Ryong, an obstetrician-gynecologist who stays on the space station for a few days as a space tourist. Gong Ryong is the son-in-law-to-be of the MZ Group's owner, South Korea's top conglomerate, and is known for his strong convictions, persistence, loyalty, and confidence. Just before his wedding, he embarks on a space trip at an astronomical cost.
While it may appear to be a leisure journey, Gong Ryong actually carries a secret mission that he cannot reveal to anyone. Will Gong Ryong succeed in completing this mission?
Lee Min Ho describes his character, Gong Ryong, who takes on a "Mission: Impossible" in space, as "an ordinary person living an ordinary and average life but has convictions and an obsession with life that others may not understand."
He added, "I found his determination to accomplish what he's been tasked with very endearing. His passion, honesty, and loyalty when it comes to life are unrefined but expressed exactly as they are."
Regarding his decision to choose When the Stars Gossip as his comeback project, Lee Min Ho explained, "We live in a time where things are moving so fast, and the boundaries of what is good and what is truly important to humanity are becoming increasingly blurred. That's why I was drawn to the story of people discovering the value of life in the most pristine and mysterious setting — space."
Lee Min Ho shared his thoughts on portraying the character, saying, "[I went in with the mindset of] the greater the determination to protect what he holds most dear, the broader the range of emotions [I can express as] Gong Ryong."
Finally, he noted, "Since the story is set in space, viewers will get to fully experience the feeling of weightlessness, the unique emotions that can only be felt in space, and its vastness filling the screen. I think the unique colors of our drama will come across as refreshing. I hope viewers can comfortably immerse themselves in the events that unfold and freely enjoy them."
