Squid Game Season 2 is in the works!

Last November, the mastermind of "Squid Game," director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared that he will be preparing for the second season due to the demand of the public. 

On January 21st, it was officially confirmed that there will be a "Squid Game Season 2." Netflix had their 2021 earnings interview and CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos was asked about the global hit series. Ted Sarandos announced that the "Squid Game" universe has just begun, confirming that there will be another "Squid Game" installment. 

The head of Netflix's Korean content, Kang Dong Han, also confirmed the second season as he attended the "Netflix 2022 Korea Content Lineup Presentation" on January 19. He stated that Netflix, director Hwang Dong Hyuk, and production company Siren Pictures are currently discussing several ideas for the upcoming season.

"Squid Game" was the topmost viewed original series on Netflix in 2021. The series was released in September 2021. The drama took the number one spot on Netflix's list in different countries for several weeks.

The Netflix original series "Squid Game" was led by Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Jung Ho Yeon, Wi Ha Joon, Anupam Tripathi, Oh Young Soo, and more. 

According to director Hwang Dong Hyuk last November, main lead Lee Jung Jae will return to the new season and will continue to portray the character of Seong Gi Hoon. No other details revealed yet on the new casts of the new season.

Aside from being one of the most popular Netflix original series, "Squid Game" also received several recognitions in the US. Just this month, Oh Young Soo who played the character Oh Il Nam won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 79th Golden Globes Awards. He was the first-ever Korean actor to win the Best Supporting Actor Award in the prestigious award-giving body. 

Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon are also nominated for the Best Male and Female Actor Award at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. "Squid Game" also achieved another milestone as they are the first non-English language series and the first Korean series to get a nomination from SAG Awards. The awarding will be held on February 27th.
