SBS's upcoming drama, The Killing Vote follows the gripping story of an anonymous "Dog Mask" who conducts a nationwide poll on death penalties for heinous criminals.

The Killing Vote serves as an adaptation of the immensely popular webtoon with the same title, which has accumulated an astounding 130 million views on platforms like Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page. The news of its drama adaptation was met with anticipation from fans who fondly remember the original webtoon.

Recently, Newsen had the opportunity to hear directly from the original webtoon creators, Um Se Yun (the writer) and Jung Yi Pum (the illustrator), about their thoughts on the upcoming drama.

The allure of The Killing Vote lies in its enthralling premise and an imaginative plot centered around the concept of a national execution vote. Both in its webtoon format and the soon-to-be-released drama, it offers a unique story that exceeds imagination.

According to Um Se Yun, "I stumbled upon news about a vicious criminal being released after serving a relatively short sentence, which led me to a comment suggesting, 'If that's the case, let the nation decide the punishment through a vote'". He continued, "On the very same day, I came across an article about 40 million smartphones being distributed in South Korea, and this sparked the idea of visualizing a national execution vote conducted through smartphones. I thought, perhaps it could serve as a vicarious satisfaction for those who wish for something impossible in reality".

When asked about their feelings upon learning about the drama adaptation of The Killing Vote, both Um Se Yun and Jung Yi Pum shared their excitement and pride. Um Se Yun said, "From the very inception of the project, I had envisioned it being adapted for the screen, so I have complete confidence that it will be a drama that does not fall short. Even while the webtoon was still ongoing, I would often find myself imagining scenes and direction of The Killing Vote as if I were the director. I am excited to see what kind of work it will turn out to be". Jung Yi Pum added, "For a webtoon artist, this is truly an honor. The thought of my illustrations coming to life on the screen makes my heart race with anticipation".

Mark your calendars for the premiere of The Killing Vote on August 10th, with the first two episodes releasing in the premiere week, followed by a weekly release of one episode every Thursday.
