Sweet Home (2020) vs Alice in Borderland (2020): Which One Is For You? (Spoiler-Free)

These two dramas from two different countries have been a hot topic on Netflix. They were released in the same year, in the same season. Some drama fans might get worried if the drama they are watching turns out to be not their cup of tea. This article tells you which drama suits you the best, so you have some outlines about these dramas. Through some paragraphs below, we will find out the differences in both dramas. Hence, the article is mainly about drama comparison.

 About the Story

The dramas provide us with a similar story: Surviving and Fighting. However, who they are fighting against are different.

Sweet Home: Surviving in the world occupied by monsters. They are fighting against monsters and humans.
Alice in Borderland: Surviving in the ‘game’ world. They are fighting against an unknown entity.

Story Diversity and Jump Scares

Image source: MyDramaList/Sweet Home/PhotosSweet Home might be better at providing colorful stories. Everything can happen in a peaceful day in the drama. Everything can happen even when the characters are just breathing peacefully, enjoying their life. Jumpscares are there, but still safe for your heart as long as you keep your volume low. No worries, it is NOT as tough as horror’s jumpscares.

Alice in Borderland has its pattern regarding the story: Do the game -> die or alive -> if alive, do another game. It keeps repeating that probably could make you get bored easily. However, once you get dragged into the games, you will feel trapped in the intense atmosphere, and you cannot escape from it. This drama is safe from jumpscares.

Brain Usage to Understand the Plot

Image source: dvd-fever.co.ukSweet Home does not require you a big brain to understand everything. The plot is simple even though it has a lot of past stories linked to the present occasion. You can enjoy the drama without fully understanding the past stories.

Alice in Borderland provides puzzles and quizzes for the watchers. This drama is much better than Sweet Home for those who love to shake their brain. You might want to pause your screen to let your brain process what is going on or to give you time to solve the puzzle. The past stories in the drama could probably tell you about the reasons why people are getting dragged into the game.

Ultimate Conflict Resolver

How the characters in the drama deal with the conflict that has reached its climax?

Sweet Home: Action triggered by inner emotions and external factors.

Alice in Borderland: Touching/emotional words that change others’ minds.

If you love “defeating enemies resolves everything,” then Sweet Home is your must-watch. Otherwise, if you think every problem should be resolved by discussion, then motivational-touching words in Alice in Borderland are your friends.

Brutality Level

If you are okay seeing hands and heads separated from their body, you can watch both. However, the number of humans getting killed is far different. Sweet Home is much safer to watch because fewer humans are getting killed. On the other hand, MANY people are getting killed (massive assassination) in Alice in Borderland.

Mature Content

This part may not be a problem for drama fans in some countries, but sometimes it is what makes someone avoid watching a particular drama, especially those who live in conservative countries like South Korea or countries in South East Asia.

Sweet Home: This drama is much safer to watch compared to Alice in Borderland as it is safe from sex scenes. Go ahead, you can watch it with your parents/hyungs/oppas/unnies/noonas unawkwardly in the living room.

Alice in Borderland: As you can expect from Japanese drama, you will find a lot of nudity and sex scenes here. The second half of the drama (until the very end) shows people with bikinis and swimsuits. Definitely not safe to watch in class or at the office.
