Wi Ha Joon proved himself to be a praiseworthy actor again with his heart-wrenching performance as Jung Ki Chul in the Disney+ K-drama The Worst of Evil.
In the K-drama, Wi Ha Joon's magnetic charisma as the cruel yet smart boss, Jang Ki Chul, of Gangnam Union, shone. But his portrayal of a man betrayed by his beloved, experiencing a whirlwind of emotions marked by bitterness, emptiness, anger, and regret, was also captivating.
Actor Wi Ha Joon managed to pull off the character flawlessly. He exuded a cold demeanor as a vile gangster blinded by the glamour of money and power, adding to the atmosphere of dread and tension amidst violent fights, betrayals, and power struggles.
However, when Ki Chul faces his first love, Eui Jung, Wi Ha Joon portrayed him as an honest man with a deep desire to stand proudly in front of the woman he loves, willing to give up his everything to live as a decent man.
Over the course of the last three episodes, Jang Ki Chul was depicted as someone who had been unfairly cheated upon. He ultimately lost everything he had painstakingly built, as a result of blindingly trusting the two people extremely close to him, Joon Mo and Eui Jung. His character evoked pathos rather than abhorrence, marking his name among villains who are a little too good to be hated.
The praise also goes to the makers and other actors - Ji Chang Wook, Im Se Mi, BIBI, Ji Seung Hyun, Im Sung Jae, Yoon Gyung Ho, and others - who, through the K-drama, tried to convey the message that those willing to go to extreme lengths to get what they want are truly The Worst of Evil.
