hi i don't know if i can write here but lets risk lol

anyway as i am trans myself (kinda still questioning but mtf btw) i once thought how would it looks like if there was a bl/gl where one of the main characters (or maybe support character but still with bl/gl trope) are transgender, i know trans characters being played by cis people is a hot topic and seriously disscused so imagine if the real trans actor/actress do that.

ik its almost impossible but...imagine!

Hi Marina, welcome!! Don't worry, anyone is welcome to write a discussion here.

I really hope for a day when we can see more trans actors and characters in this genre. Every once in a while I come across a Thai BL that might have like a trans woman side character that shows up like twice throughout the show (lol), but I have yet to watch any series' that heavily focus on a trans character or utilize trans actors in a big way.

There was a previous discussion post where a few members mentioned some shows that deal with intersex, trans, nb, and other culturally "third gender" characters. Some stand-outs to me include:

I have personally never seen any of these yet, but maybe one might catch your eye. I added a few of these to my PTW after reading up on them for sure.
(I love your Yves pfp btw^^).

Hi :)

Unfortunately it's a bit of a stretch, but you could check out Mr Unlucky Has No Choice But To Kiss. It's a BL where one of the side characters is played by a trans actor, Nakayama Satsuki. The character isn't mentioned to be trans, but since trans rep. is so hard to find in BL/GL, I still thought it was worth a mention. I really hope he gets a main role in a BL eventually, although I'm not sure how likely that is to happen...

DNA Says Love You (intersex characater)

I second DNA Says Love You, it's really good.

I know the post is about liveaction shows, but if you're interested in manga as well, I definitely recommend Garden In The Closet by Itono Kei. It's an ongoing BL (currently there's only one chapter out) about two students, one of whom is trans. I absolutely loved that first chapter, and (without spoiling too much) the metaphor used for the trans character was really well thought out. It deals not just with transphobia, but also homophobia, as well as gender roles and how constricting it can be to be put in a box and expected to act in a certain way based solely on your gender. As someone who has been a BL fan for a pretty long time now, it was pretty surreal to see an actual trans character in a main role, and it honestly made me quite emotional. Oh, and the art is pretty too, on top of everything else.

ooh okay, thanks for a response!
