Dramas in 2026
rating is arbitrary. mostly based on how much i personally enjoyed it vs. the quality. you shouldn't care what i think ✌️ I keep my comments here and never critique in main spaces so... If you're part of the "I don't understand why the rating is so low" crowd in drama comment sections then best to stay the hell out of here lmao. Sometimes it ain't that deep!

1. The Unclouded Soul
Chinese Drama - 2025, 40 episodes
My drama comeback and I start with this convoluted mess. But WD was 10/10 as usual. This man shines anywhere even though he's perpetually trapped in side character land. Ya'll are too scared to give this man proper (lead) work and it shows.

2. Synanthrope
Japanese Drama - 2025, 12 episodes
The style + genre of this drama is right up my alley (hs me would've probably ate this shit up from start to finish, but I digress). Took me a while to finish but it picked up after 3-4 for me and ended up being a great watch. Solid cast. I can count on one hand the number of dramas I've seen Mizukami Koshi in, but I think he actually really suits this kind of 'comedic' role, imo.

3. The Yakuza Boss's Beloved
Japanese Drama - 2025, 8 episodes
Didn't expect to find Totsuka Shota Hella fine in this but here we are. Yeah. That's all.

4. Koi to Dangan
Japanese Drama - 2022, 9 episodes
Figured I'd watch another 'yakuza' themed drama. I laughed a lot. I feel like this could have been more watchable if the dialogue was less cheesy. I'm not familiar with the source material so maybe that's just the way it's written. FL was tolerable but the ML was a bit too comical for me, although I guess this whole show was a bit too comical.

7. Small Fry Heroes

8. Always Meet Again
Korean Drama - 2026, 8 episodes
Wth did I just watch. I thought BOL was bad, but I'd gladly take that over this... whatever this was. Only reason I watched this was because the leads have a good dynamic, but they couldn't save this incoherent mess.

9. Veil of Shadows
Chinese Drama - 2026, 29 episodes
Visually stunning train wreck. First half was entertaining and had a good enough start to the storyline, but as it progressed it just became one big clusterfuck. Plus adding time travel to the mix is just... yeah. It's like painting a landscape on the canvas that looks fine enough, but then continuously adding more and more layers of paint not knowing when to stop, until it doesn't look like a landscape anymore... end of lame analogy. I guess that's GJM's style, but x100. Anyway. I give it a 6.5 for visuals and acting because if there's two areas GJM can consistently deliver in is hiring a great and talented cast and creating ethereal, quality cinematography.

10. Nagatan and Aoto: Ichika's Cook Book Season 2
Japanese Drama - 2026, 10 episodes
Second season did not disappoint and was just as heartwarming and good as the previous one. The food, the vibes, the main couple's dynamic... I very much appreciate how emotionally mature and intelligent the male lead is (fictional characters amirite) and it was nice seeing them grow in their relationship and learning how to rely on each other throughout the show.
