ACTORS WHOSE WORK I RESPECT
My description was too long, so I had to put it into an essay I published on this site.
In short: I love actors who become their character and convey the story.
I love nuances in acting.
-
Im Ji Yeon
South Korean
skillZ! respect! a cameleon actress who seems "for real" in any role I saw her in
favorite scenes: villain in The GLory describes why she is not guilty and why she "has not done anything bc the victim was already miserable"
-
Ham Eun Jung
South Korean
The diva of dailies, is an excellent actress and makes dailies be the quality of weekend dramas and even short dramas
Well only if she gets the right role... she just could not act the pathetically dumb Jang Mi in First Man.
-
Kim Jae Yeong
South Korean
I checked his previous dramas but I dont really like acting there
But in Idol I he shines, wow acts "as if real" with face and body language
-
-
Bae In Hyuk
South Korean
Amazing complexity and comedic talent and also warmth and ability to connect with ffellow actors, small or big.
I love his acting in Our Universe
-
Ha Yoon Kyoung
South Korean
I love her acting Bok Hee in Undercover Miss Hong. She was as if real....
I never saw her anywhere else but I suspect she can act anything
-
Kim Young Kwang
South Korean
I saw him first in On Your Wedding Day and I loved the role and the acting...
Fantastic as Imugi in Haunted Palace - wow such simple costuming with great acting makes for such a memorable Imugi!!!, and in Walking on Thin Ice
-
Gong Min Jung
South Korean
I love her acting in Sorry but Not Sorry and many other dramas. Excellent comedian too
-
-
Choi Min Soo
South Korean
His role as the Major in Lawless Lawyer blew me away. The facial ticks of using his tongue to brush his cheek, his rolling voice, his whole demeanor... I was like WOW skillZ!!!! RESPECT!
-
Choi Jae Sung
South Korean
Impressed with his role of a villain Chairman in Pearl in Red. He is acting like a real person. I think I met ppl that look like his role, in variou countries. His character is universal and he masterfully acted it. He is like a Mexican bandit boss from old cowboy movies...
-
Choi Hyun Wook
South Korean
Love his acting in Twinking Watermellon he is so alive and vibrant, that concert scene singing Man in Yellow Shirt is one of the best performance scenes I have ever seen - and I am a performer and concert goer. This actor has presence and I hope they find him suitable dramas
-
Park Hoon
South Korean
I loved his role in The Nice Guy. He was a villan and i think bc of smaller and slanted eyes, and I dislike when kdramas do that. This is an excellent actor with a very strong presence.
-
Yoon Sun Woo
South Korean
Wow I THINK I saw this actor for the first time in daily First Man - but he has a looong list of roles in impressive dramas. So no wonder that his acting is so good in First Man, where I cannot tel there IS any acting :) His character Baek Ho seems real. There is no actor anywhere.
-
Lee Seung Yeon
South Korean
I adore her acting of loan shark Nan Suk in A Graceful Liar. Extremely theatrical and memorable
-
Lee Bo Hee
South Korean
I love her acting in Queen's House. She was a very vain and villanous but FUN very theatrical so memorable
-
Choi Daniel
South Korean
I loved his acting in Sorry but not Sorry as the ML. I havent seen him anywhere else I think although he was in many dramas
-
Deng Chao
Chinese
I absolutely loved his ML role in Stephen Chow's 2016 movie "the Mermaid"
The scene when the Mermaid comes to his house to kill him are totally hilarious, especially the scene when he dances while she is under the table - that scene is etched forever in my mind.
This actor's roles in mainland chinese dramas are not nearly as fun. I checked :)
-
Lee Jae Yoon
South Korean
He was great as an insurance agent in love in My Love by My Side
Then bc of his physique they put him in villain roles - that's sad - he can do a lot more
-
-
Seo In Guk
South Korean
Wow I love acting of this actor! so dynamic! he is so lively and charming and just wonderful to watch, so playful and creative with his acting - omg all the faces and body movements and voice in his role as King of Shopping Louis was extraordinary, I will always remmber that, pure unconditional love of a lttle playful monkey -
at least, he WAS in 2015 and 2016 dramas Shopaholic Luis and Hello Monster :)
In 2026 Boyfriend on Demand, the script made him into a robot, it was such a boooooring role :( All his acting talents wasted... Seems it is happening again with his poker faced role in See You At Work Tomorrow. Such a blaaaaand drama... at least it is not toxic, the ppl have healthy attitudes.
He is so handsome too, with his slanted eyes too he does not look like someone who had plastic surgery? He is very good looking. But he looks ugly with his poker face. His main plus is that he is CHARMING and that is totally his own, charm is something that does not autimatically come with a pretty face, and you cannot buy charm with a pretty face. That is just an inner quality
He is a great comedian in Shopaholic Louis

Yoon Kye Sang
South Korean
heroes next door, winning try
I realized he is a powerful actor when I realized I am remembering only HIM from Heroes Next Door. Also The Winning Try - only him and the young lead player
-
-
Park Hae Soo
South Korean
Scarecrow ML is a wow role, I will remember him forever.
I didnt dare to watch to the end since he seems to be a dumb reckless reactive guy who gets into trouble big time - I felt scared to keep watching him being beaten up
Honour (trashy drama but he acted well)
-
Bong Joon Ho
South Korean
This is not an actor but a director, he made Parasite, Okja, etc. A super smart guy
-
Sung Hoon
South Korean
I "met" Sung Hoon I think during Covid pandemic, in drama My Secret Romance, where he was really fun in his role, although the drama was .. well... fluffy :) ..
Then I saw him in Five Enough, and that was such a FUN role. I was laughing so much and also feeling sad for his character. It was a masterfully done role, and in a decent family drama, one of the best-ever family kdramas out there. He is definitely one of the main reasons that drama was a success, he made it so memorable.
He was great in his super serious guest role as the Korean president in kdrama Defects.
As I am going through his list of dramas/movies/etc... I can see he is so underutilized, so many of his dramas are super fluffy and some are plain trash. Luckily he has some great dramas like Five Enough, Death Row, etc.
-
Song Il Gook
South Korean
I "met" this actor in kdrama Kimchi Family, he is the ML and ... well.. essentially the only good actor in the kimchi family, he carries the drama... I dont think I saw him anywhere else I started actively watching in 2019 and seems like he was done filming by 2010 except one special show with his 3 kids and I dont watch special shows since I dont speak Korean.
The actor is fascinating, bc he can look anything from really mean nasty gangster all the way to very gentle child.
Plus.
KimChi Family drama was filmed before plastic surgery and dieting to super skinny and bleached hair and pale faces and TIRED LOW ENERGY non-moving, non-acting actors....ML is super handsome and more manly and good looking, more ENERGETIC AND STRONG than any of the the modern metrosexual manicured plasticized pathetically lifeless dudes.
