My Watchlist: Toronto Japanese Film Festival 2021
My personal watchlist for the festival! (I missed out on the all-access pass so I need to limit myself lol)
-
1. Hold Me Back
Japanese Movie - 2020
As a fan of Hayashi Kento (and now of Non!) this was a must watch and I wasn't disappointed. I actually rewatched it 2 times before my 48 hours were up (and then a 3rd time just skipping around to scenes)
-
2. Junihitoe wo Kita Akuma
Japanese Movie - 2020
The period costumes were pretty and the leads were good actors but overall it was a janky and underwhelming movie with a couple nice moments but not enough to make it good
-
3. Wife of a Spy
Japanese Movie - 2020
Well shot and acted, and a very bold movie to address the things Japan did during WW2. I liked getting the perspective of the people who did not agree with the direction their country was going. The ending... even though you know such a thing had to happen your heart breaks. War is a terrible thing. Only wish I got a bit more character insight so I'd feel closer to them, otherwise a great movie.
