Forever Favs

By "Favs" I don't rate them according to production quality. This is just the enjoyment and love I have for these shows and characters. It does not mean that they are high quality artistic genius type shows. These are just good for different reasons. (Not that some of them are made badly. But some of them are.).

  • Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo

    1. Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo

    Japanese Drama - 2013, 16 episodes

I cannot tell you why I love this so much. I watched the anime first and then saw this later. I fell in love with this version and these actors portrayal of the characters.

I use this show for listening practice so I have never watched it with subtitles (only if in a scene I didn't grasp what was being said). So I have watched this often. Probably 4 times now?

Something I love about this series is Kotoko. Her love and dedication is so powerful and she just keeps fighting. Somehow, she loves this guy who really is not so great. But she somehow sees good in him haha. I love the family, the moments. It's all just so great to me!

Cheesy, yes. But I can't get enough.

One thing in the manga/anime that I liked was the reason they started pursuing becoming a doctor and a nurse. Originally, there was a kid that shared a room with Yuki at the hospital who had cancer. They were moved by him and wanted to be able to help kids like that. I always loved how that was the door opener for them. In the show however, they don't have that same trope used to motivate them. So, I still adore the show but I miss that one thing.

  • Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo Season 2

    2. Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo Season 2

    Japanese Drama - 2014, 16 episodes

This is the wonderful icing on the cake.

I love watching Irie finally do some pursuing for a change. It's in a different style, thats for sure. But them being married is the cutest thing! You don't see that often in dramas and thats probably a reason why I love this show. You get a married season of life.

I also enjoy watching them strive towards their work. Hard workers.

  • Kimi wa Petto

    3. Kimi wa Petto

    Japanese Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

This is another one I watch without subs. I know the story really well and use it for listening practice.

I loved this story back when I watched the first version. then I read the manga, then I found this gem to be my favorite. Sumire is a lot softer and cuter in this version. I feel for her and her social anxieties a lot more in this version. They also changed her smoking habit to a candy habit. That changed her vibe a bit but I like it.

The actors have great chemistry and I enjoy their dynamic.

  • Tunnel

    4. Tunnel

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

I loved how excising this was is! Great story with so much that happens! I watched it once and then turned around and watched it with my Mom. We both very much enjoyed it!

Love this show and will probably watch it again.

  • Flower of Evil

    5. Flower of Evil

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.0

Only reason this isn't rated a 10/10 is because of one thing at the end.

Same as Tunnel, I watched this one and then turned around and watched it again with my Mom. This one is so awesome and I loved it all the way through!

The one thing in the end I hated (SPOILER) was the amnesia. That was a stupid thing to add, in my opinion. It was not needed for the story and only added unnecessary grief.

  • Crash Landing on You

    6. Crash Landing on You

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    Obviously. This one is amazing.

Watched it first time with Laura. Then the second time I watched it with My Mom and Brother. They loved it too and cried in the end with me.

  • Gokusen

    7. Gokusen

    Japanese Drama - 2002, 12 episodes

This was one of the first gems I got into in my earlier years of anime and drama watching (2009ish). I have re-watched it maybe 5 times now and still to this day love it dearly.

I love watching her be so committed to her students and through her love and trust (and kick-butt ness) she wins their hearts. It's great!

The first season is probably my favorite but season 2 and 3 are wonderful and I have watched them very often as well.

  • Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

    8. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

    9.5

Watched this one twice. I do feel towards the end it gets a little slow, but I enjoy it.

Super fun! I love her and the characters! I like that she ends up with the fun guy. Where as usually the more serious guy is the main one.

  • The Girl Who Sees Scents

    9. The Girl Who Sees Scents

    Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes

I don't know why I adore this one so much but I do. My first viewing of it was with my friends, Julie, Georgina and Chloe back in my time in Tokyo. We had so much fun watching it together and talking through it. So it always stayed in my heart very warmly.

But in my second viewing alone, I found that I still loved the show and the characters and plot. Kept me very interested! I love it still!

  • The Untamed

    10. The Untamed

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 50 episodes

    10

I think I am in love with every character in some way. I don't know how, but they make me care so much about them.

The story is wonderful! I love the journey and sacrifices the two main characters do for others. Wei Wei with his family and justice for the weak. And Lan Zhan for Wei Wei. It's so beautiful to watch and rips my heart open both times I watched it.

Forever will stay in my heart.
