Tea & Shodo (Calligraphy)

I love tea (& I’m learning about it). I have also been practicing Calligraphy with brush and Chinese ink for a few years. They are two of my favorite relaxing hobbies. I think tea and shodo are also connected to each other. I created this list to collect the dramas and films I've watched feature these two things that I love. ^^

    1. Every Day a Good Day

    Japanese Movie - 2018

    10

This film's main theme is about Japanese traditional tea ceremony. It also contains Japanese shodo (calligraphy). But the film is not only about tea. It's a film about life.

    3. The Lines that Define Me

    Japanese Movie - 2022

    9.0

This film is about the healing power of art. It’s about traditional Sumi-e (black ink-wash) painting, which is pretty related to Shodo (Calligraphy). A lot of people who practice calligraphy with Sumi or Chinese ink also learn ink-wash painting. I also love black ink-wash painting, and painting in general.

  • Meet Yourself

    4. Meet Yourself

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 40 episodes

    9.5

This is a relaxing slice of life drama. It’s actually doesn’t have a deep and specific theme about tea, but one of the characters loves tea and drinks it everyday. The character also talks about it sometimes and shares about their dream of opening a tea business, which is also one of my biggest secret dreams. It encouraged me to dream about it again. Hopefully one day I may really be able to do something about tea.

  • Oshin

    5. Oshin

    Japanese Drama - 1983, 297 episodes

This asadora’s main theme is not about tea. It’s about the life of a woman named Oshin. Oshin is great in everything she does. She was taught to do traditional tea ceremony since she was young. There are two scenes in the drama when she performed traditional tea ceremony. I loved them. ^^

This is also one of my favorite dramas. I haven’t completed it though.
