✨My Journey with Asian dramas:
✅I grew up with Asian dramas. My journey started around late 1990s and early 2000s. I think most of the stuff I watched back then were old classic ones that every Asian would watch at that time. A lot of them are not on MDL and I’m lazy to add them, so I just add the ones that I remember and can find here. :)
Chinese and Hong Kong Dramas were my first dramas. One of these could be my first: Journey to the West (1986), The Condor Heroes 95 (1995) or Justice Bao (1993). Another Chinese drama that could be my first drama (not on MDL): Adventures of Sanmao (Sanmao Liu Lang Ji). Anther special drama to me released in the early 2000s: Fire Phoenix (2001). I've also watched a few other old dramas starring Liu Xiao Qing. ^^
My first Korean Drama was either Dae Jang Geum (2003), or Glass Slippers (2002).
I also came from the golden era of modern 2000s Taiwanese Dramas. My first and special one was The Prince Who Turns into a Frog (2005). I became a fan of Joe Chen since this drama. Ming Dao and Joe Chen used to be my biggest early OTP, besides Full House couple Bi and Song Hye Kyo. :)
My first Japanese dramas were tokusatsu: Super Sentai Gaoranger, Sentai Hurricanger, Kamen Rider. I watched them with my brother in early 2000s. :)
✅During the 2000s-2010s, I watched a lot of Chinese, Hong Kong and Korean dramas, besides tokusatsu.
✅As for Chinese and Hong Kong dramas, I’ve watched and enjoyed more costume dramas than modern ones. Wuxia is my first and favorite genre, and I often re-watch my old favorites.
✅Japanese dramas have a special place in my heart now. The first one I watched that isn't tokusatsu was the live action adaptation of my favorite anime Anohana in 2015. It's still pretty hard for me to find Japanese dramas now, but sometimes it feels like finding gems. ❤️
✅I've watched a few Filipino and Thai dramas, and dramas from some other Asian countries which are not added on MDL yet.

✨My Watching Habits:
Mood Watcher
Watch Completed Dramas Slowly, or Binge-watch
Avoid Spoilers
Rarely Drop (NDDer)
Rewatch a lot
I’m a mood watcher. I watch whatever I feel like. I don’t do watching challenges.
I watch all genres: Romance, Comedy, Fantasy, Slice of Life, Mystery, Thriller, Action, etc. It depends on my moods. I watch whatever I feel like at the time.
I watch dramas pretty slowly. I never skip or speed up while watching a drama, and often re-watch scenes while watching.
I mostly binge-watch now, or watch completed dramas slowly.
I re-watch a lot. I have a long plan to watch list, but often re-watch my old favorite films instead of starting a new one. ^^
I rarely drop dramas. As for dramas in my dropped list, they are old and impossible to find, or there’s an actor/actress in that drama that I can’t stand anymore, which rarely happens.
I choose a drama by reading its synopsis, and using my intuition. I avoid spoilers so I often try to avoid reading reviews or comments before watching. I love reading different thoughts from others after I’ve completed a drama.
I have lists of favorite actors and actress but it doesn’t mean that I will watch all of their dramas.
✨My Ratings & Reviews:
I rate my dramas and films out of my enjoyment and I think I’m quite generous. I rate a lot of them high. I pretty enjoyed a lot of the films I’ve watched, and tend to ignore minor flaws that I might find in a film, as long as it gave me some sense of satisfaction or fulfillment.
However, I do pay attention to little details in a film and can be picky sometimes. I guess I just happened to choose a lot of good ones that suit my taste.
I wrote down some criteria for my ratings below, but it’s not exactly the same way all the time. As I mentioned above, I’m also a mood rater.
My childhood dramas are often exceptions. I enjoyed most of them and rated them high. Even if I might not like a drama as much as I used to do when I re-watch it later, I tend to keep my initial ratings.
9-10 | It gave me a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment, despite some potential flaws that might not like very much. It’s re-watchable. |
8-8.5 | A good one. I pretty enjoyed it. I may re-watch it. |
7-7.5 | Overall it’s good. There are great moments that I enjoyed, but nothing so special. |
6-6.5 | It’s a bit disappointing, but okay overall. |
5-5.5 | It’s watchable, but not so enjoyable. |
4-4.5 | I didn’t enjoy it. There could be very few things or moments that I liked. |
0-3.5 | I didn’t enjoy it at all. |
Please keep in mind that my opinions about a drama are just about my personal taste. I may have a different taste from you. You can watch anything you like.
Please don’t take my ratings and reviews too seriously, as even I myself don’t take them so seriously. I try to chill about rating my dramas and don’t think too much about it.
I enjoy writing long reviews, when I want to write them. Basically, I write them for myself, and often add some personal experiences that I relate to the story or characters. I appreciate it if you read through my lengthy reviews. ❤️
I don’t rate or review the films I haven’t completed.
✨This is one of my favorite songs: 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). I love both the original performance from Teresa Teng and this cover performance from Leslie Cheung. I hope they are at peace now, wherever they are.
