Gold standard in dramas

I'm super super picky about the kind of dramas I will watch , and finish . These managed not just to pass , but also become my gold standards for the future

  • Circle

    1. Circle

    Korean Drama - 2017, 12 episodes

    9.5

This drama has my heart , and my soul , and most certainly my mind .

The twelve episodes of Circle define the stuff binge watching legends are made of. It was action packed , filled with twists and actors who delivered brilliant performances . While it is a futuristic sci fi story , the questions it asks us ,  the viewers are very much centred around the present . The best thing about Circle , was that it never felt preachy or moralistic ,but it's deft handling left you with serious questions anyway.

Also ,this drama had one of the most dynamic and interesting female leads I've seen yet . She owns a part of my heart .

  • Hello Monster

    2. Hello Monster

    Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes

    8.5

    Chemistry. Chemistry. Chemistry .

The whole drama shimmered with chemistry . Not just between the leads , but between the protagonist(s) and the antagonist , between the members on the task force . It felt like the characters in this story ,belonged together .

Hello Monster , for me ,never felt like a single protagonist versus villain tale , no. It felt more like a complex tale that you heard from and saw , from different people and their perception. Which of course ,lead to a compelling drama .

It's difficult to maintain a sense of mystery throughout a drama , but Hello Monster does it . Even when you think you have the answer to everything, there is still an element that surprises you .

    And back to the chemistry.

I don't think I've stared so hard at a TV screen , just trying to WILL the leads to kiss ( well there was Circle ,but that's a whole other story) . The male and the female were perfect for each other , and not in a drama land way , but in a this could actually work sense . He balanced out her impulsive tendencies and she helped lighten his personality . Both of them were complete people in their own right , it's just that they were better together . Which is why I will ship them my whole life . My great great great grandchildren will hear about this ship .

  • Couple or Trouble

    3. Couple or Trouble

    Korean Drama - 2006, 16 episodes

    7.5

This one is old , and a GOLD find for me .

I love couple or trouble not so much for its plot , as much as I do for the leads . I love this couple . They were the very opposite of the many kdrama plots I'd heard about , and the few I've seen .

They're both human , and very very real. He's not the brooding , misunderstood millionaire , or the chirpy happy young man . He's just a guy doing what he has to , to get through life . Is he perfect ? Far from it . But he's most definitely interesting, and like I said realistic .

She will perhaps be my ultimate favourite in the romantic kdrama world , and in my top 10 of any drama . She's absolutely unapologetic about who she is , from the start to the very end of the drama . You can choose to take her as she is , or too bad for you . Which is a rarity in dramas . While she does evolve and grow , she doesn't transform completely into something she's not .   And importantly , she changes for herself , not to win his love. Even when you think you've figured out her personality, there's always another layer .

Together , they soften each other's edges , and they just WORK you know ? The drama for me highlighted the whole nobody's perfect idea .You just learn to love the imperfections.
