☆ Rec: SOUTH KOREA ☆
The rare gems - because I hardly like kdramas.
Korean dramas which I personally adored and enjoyed. May not have been fully enjoyed but at least there were some things about it which left a positively different impression in me.

1. Live Up to Your Name
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
My current TOP kdrama. REFRESHING - male lead is dynamic and has his own character depth and development + fem lead is independent and caring = and their relationship is written intentionally to be built on mutual understanding and respect!! (Kim Nam Gil's expressions are wondeeeerful. I have fallen in love with him.)
A time travel story with its own unique twist, and a very well-written romance. The angst at the end definitely didn't work as well as QIHM but LUTYN's romance definitely triumphed it and a lot of other dramas out there.

2. Lie to Me
Korean Drama - 2011, 16 episodes
One of my first kdramas, watched it when I was young and naive. Yet I still find this occupying a special place in my heart. It's not a drama with a wise and sensible plot, but undeniably entertaining and memorable. The leads' chemistry was good, and the story did sweep me along. The kind of oldschool romcom I once thought Korea is good for (- so I was disappointed to find out they deviated from that thereafter).
I wouldn't mind reliving this drama sometime again. (In fact I have tried to do this before already.)

3. Queen In Hyun's Man
Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes
Used to be my favourite kdrama before LUTYN appeared in my life. I watched this after I watched the Chinese remake, yet I still have to agree this one is better on the whole - though I liked both and find them interesting individually and comparatively.
I'm a sucker for time travel so yeahhhh - it has a tight and exciting storyline. Kim Boong Do is perhaps one of my all-time favourite male leads (just as his Chinese counterpart Gong Ming is). Everything about them is absolutely charming!! (Also, big crush on Ji Hyun Woo !!)
One major regret with this drama - which made me not love it as much - is that I felt like the leads' relationship could be better written with more depth. Though the angst was really well-written.

4. Because This Is My First Life
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
The most meaningful and down-to-earth kdrama I've come across, with beautiful and touching writing, skillfully weaved with romance. Too many things about this drama hit home.
Only disappointment was the last episodes which really tainted my entire drama experience. Otherwise, it was great.

5. Marriage, Not Dating
Korean Drama - 2014, 16 episodes
Overall enjoyable and wildly entertaining (at the beginning) with comfortable leads characters and chemistry. Nothing too deep and meaningful as I can remember, but I still remember bingewatching this.

6. Save Me
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
A good thriller with depth and meaning in its storywriting. There is good progression of the story which reflected character development and an extent of realism - because nothing really happened overnight. While the representation of the dangers of cults is still relatively conservative and the story is still relatively safe, but nevertheless still a rather realistic and thoughtful portrayal of the relationship between cults and the society.
The camaraderie and teamwork in this drama are also commendable. A+ for no romance.
