  • Aishiteiru to Ittekure

    1. Aishiteiru to Ittekure

    Japanese Drama - 1995, 12 episodes

Wow. The romance is so heartwarming. Prepare to shed some sad and happy tears. Very loveable drama. The acting was very convincing and the male lead was very mature (something I can very much appreciate if the other lead lacks this quality). This drama takes a look at the unconventional romance between a young woman and a deaf and mute artist. It shows how much you can change- in this case, how much you are prepared to change for someone. As you can guess, the female lead starts seeing more importance in other morals and begins to study sign language to better understand the male lead. Not only is this drama very inspiring, it is also very educational.

  • Kono yo no Hate

    2. Kono yo no Hate

    Japanese Drama - 1994, 12 episodes

Simply amazing. This show is not only a way up from a questionable to a spitting romance. It shows all the ups and downs in a relationship. Highly recommendable.

  • Cheap Love

    3. Cheap Love

    Japanese Drama - 1999, 10 episodes

What I adored about this drama was the unconventional romance. This show doesn't back down on showing different social classes. Junichi (male lead) was adorable in this with his tough act but golden heart.

  • Aoi Tori

    4. Aoi Tori

    Japanese Drama - 1997, 11 episodes

A beautiful blossoming romance between two unconventional people. One who has his life in prospect and one who questions the steadiness of her life every day. It was very moving. I liked that the male lead also deeply cared for the daughter of female (spoiler alert) lead as one of his own.

  • Rondo

    5. Rondo

    Japanese Drama - 2006, 11 episodes

The ending was a bit disappointing, but overall, I loved it. The different nationalities and them not communicating in the ways we are used too make this drama all the more intriguing. This drama contains suspense, mystery, and romance.

  • Kimi no Te ga Sasayaite Iru

    6. Kimi no Te ga Sasayaite Iru

    Japanese Special - 1997, 5 episodes

Another unconventional romance that is hard to pursue due to the disapproval of the folks of the leads. It shows growth within both the male and female lead. The male lead grows in personality and the female lead grows in strength when she finds herself alone against the world as a deaf and mute young woman. very recommendable.
