While in the States, his highly experimental piece “Madanabadha: The Romance of the Rose,” a mixture of Thai Traditional Theatre and western improvisational technique, received a great reception from American audiences, apart from his unique style of directing Beckett’s dramatic works which is his expertise.
His directing credits range from Classical to Broadway Musical; Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night Dream, Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, Endgame, Genet’s The Balcony, Ebbs & Kander’s Cabaret, Schwartz’s Pippin, Mc’Nally’s Full Monty, Cameron Mitchell’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch, O’ Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, to name a few. Original written Thai Musical includes the adaptation of two Thai national artists’ works; Seefah’s “Khao Nok Na” and Chart Kobjitti “Kam Pipaksa.”
His original plays have been seen in Asia, Europe and Canada; I Shall Ride the Rainbow When I Grow up, Dancing to Nirvana, Dear Death, Kafka and I and the Agony of Being in the Seemingly Democratic Country where the Society Is Doomed to Collapse. LOR : Love, Obsession, Revenge. Punnasak has written and directed Mahajanaka, a monumental project in Thai theatre history as tribute to King Bhumibhol Adulayadej sponsored by Thai Government.
In 2022, Punnasak wrote and directed 180 Degree Longitude Passes through Us, his first drama series, aiming to elevate the standards of Thai BL and introduce multi-layer drama, consisting of theatrical and cinematic elements to the audience.
Punnasak Sukee is now an Assistant Professor in Performing Arts, Chairperson of The Department of Performing Arts and Artistic Director of BU Theatre Company, Bangkok University.
