He attended Matsuyama Middle School and was in the Naval Academy at the end of World War II. During his return journey from the Academy, he spent a night in Hiroshima and witnessed the aftermath of the atomic bombing. After graduating from Matsuyama High School, he was accepted into the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Medicine but chose to study at the Faculty of Arts, Nihon University, from which he graduated.
Hayasaka began his career as editor-in-chief of the Chuo Fujin Shimbun and later gained recognition as an ikebana critic, contributing to the establishment of the Ikebana Association. He wrote scripts for children's television programs and documentaries and contributed to the "Non-Fiction Theater" series on NTV. His work spanned television dramas, films, and novels, often reflecting his experiences and personal connections to pilgrimage and the atomic bomb.
He passed away on December 16, 2017, from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm at the age of 88.
